Plant propagation

Indoor plants not only decorate the interior of a residential or office building, but also fight air pollution in it. To know how to increase the number of "green doctors", we suggest considering various ways of their reproduction.

The following main methods of propagation of indoor flowers are distinguished: seeds, division during transplantation, parts of a particular plant. Seed propagation of indoor plants is not widespread. Not all species with this method are capable of transmitting their characters to offspring. Seeds can be propagated, for example, asparagus, cyclamen, palm trees, begonia, geranium, pink vinca, cacti. When sowing seeds, special care and accuracy should be exercised. If they are large or medium in size, then they should first be sown only in sand, and subsequently, seedlings should be transplanted into nutrient soil. Small seeds of plants such as begonia and cactus should not be covered with soil from above, but only gently squeezed. Pots with seeds are covered with glass and set aside in a warm and dark place. When they germinate, they are transplanted into a larger container, and then planted in separate small pots.

Propagation of plants for the home is most often carried out vegetatively: cuttings, rhizomes or bulbs. Cuttings distinguish between stem and leaf. The first view is a part of the stem with leaves cut off from the plant. As a rule, cuttings are cut from the side shoots under the node, on the site of which the roots of the new plant will develop. In some plant species, shoots can be broken out of the sinus of a leaf without cutting.

Stem cuttings are rooted in a container of water or a small pot of sand. For better rooting, the container is covered with a glass jar or plastic bag. But every day, shelter should be removed to ventilate the plants. Propagation of plants by this method is used in the cultivation of ficus, pelargonium, fuchsia, oleander, indoor roses, balsam, cyperus and many others. When the first roots appear, it is necessary to transplant the rooted cuttings into a pot of earth.

Propagation of plants is carried out by leaf cuttings. So begonia, senpolia, Kalanchoe, peperomia are bred. All of them easily reproduce thanks to only one leaf. If begonia is propagated, then its leaf should be cut along the main veins and laid on the ground. After a short period of time, young plants begin to appear on the sections, which require transplantation into individual pots. If the senpolia, peperomia is propagated, then their leaves should be broken off from the mother plant and planted in the ground with a cuttings. Kalanchoe leaves must be laid out in the sand. Newly formed plants begin to develop from brood buds. Sansevier can be propagated by a piece of leaf. In order to root leafy cuttings, it is necessary to follow the same rules as for stem.

Plants propagate plant species such as chlorophytum, saxifrage. Siblings are already formed plants. They are cut from an adult flower and rooted.

Propagation of plants by rhizomes, which are underground stems with buds and leaves, is effective in aspidistra, cyperus, and ferns. When transplanting, the rhizome is shaken off the ground and cut into several parts, each of which is planted in a separate pot. Slices should be sprinkled with charcoal.

The following plants multiply with the bulbs that are formed from the kidneys located in the cavity of the scales of the adult bulb: hippeastrum, wallots, zephyranthes, eucharis, hemanthus. Young bulbs are separated from the mother only at the moment when their own roots grow. Most often this is done when transplanting plants.

Having studied the types of reproduction and knowing which one is most suitable for a particular plant, you can improve the process of breeding indoor flowers.
