Appearance story

So, how long has the symbolism used by Moldova appeared? The flag of the country begins its history during the reign of the principality. Even then, red color was present on it , and the center of the panel was occupied by the image of the coat of arms, made in gold. The head symbol of the tour or the bison then served as the main symbol; it was also depicted on seals and coins. Since the first decades of the nineteenth century, the flag of Moldova has also used blue. Initially, he occupied the entire banner, and it housed a red canton with white stars and a bison head. In 1917, a democratic republic appeared, choosing tricolor as a symbol. Then it was horizontal, but the colors were already used in a modern combination. Then the country began to be called the Moldavian SSR, not Moldavia, the flag also changed according to Union standards: the red panel with a green stripe in the middle was supplemented with socialist images of a sickle, a hammer and a five-pointed star. This option lasted until 1990. The modern flag of Moldova, the description of which can be read above, was adopted upon independence. In 2010, a small change was made to it: before the emblem was placed only on the front, but now it appeared in mirror image on the back.

Similar panels of other countries

Not only Moldova uses the same colors. The flag of Romania completely coincides both in shades and in their arrangement. This is a vertical tricolor with azure, yellow and red stripes. The only difference is the lack of a coat of arms in the central part. The coincidence in this case is symbolic. Moldova has chosen such shades in order to emphasize the proximity of states. A similar banner is used by the African country of Chad. It also does not have an image of the coat of arms, in addition, the first vertical strip is performed in a darker shade of blue. Finally, another state worth mentioning. Extremely similar to the one used by Moldova, the flag belongs to Andorra. The difference lies in the fact that another emblem is placed on the central yellow stripe, much larger and made in red and gold in the form of a shield divided into several parts.

Flag of Moldova, description

State emblem

This country symbol looks like a crossed shield with red and blue fields. In the center is the image of the head of a bison or a tour. Between the horns he has a star with eight rays, on the right is a rose with five petals, and on the left is a crescent directed to the left. Each element is made in golden color. The shield is located on the chest of an eagle, in whose beak is a golden cross. In the claws of the bird are a green olive branch and a scepter. This combination of characters was created in 1990, after the collapse of the USSR. Its creator was the artist Gheorghe Vrabie, who worked together with heraldry specialist Maria Dogaru. It was she who came up with the idea of depicting an olive branch, which would reflect the desire of the Moldovan people for peace. In November of that year, the emblem was officially approved and has not been modified since. It is in this version that it is used on a state standard, located on the front part in the traditional form, and on the inside - in mirror image. In the near future, symbolism may be amended in order to get rid of the similarities with the Romanian emblem and flag and emphasize sovereignty.
