For Russian people, laziness is a complex concept. For example, itâs hard to say, is wine evil or is it good? Of course, it all depends on the measure. If you drink a lot of wine, then you can become an alcoholic, and if taken regularly in small doses, then it is harmless. Thus, proverbs of laziness do not reflect the multifaceted nature of relations between Russian people and parasitism.
Laziness is like a horror story
Many philosophers, such as Kant or Schopenhauer, said that in a personâs life both pleasure and suffering should be harmoniously represented. Hedonists will exclaim: âWell no! We want pure enjoyment forever and ever. â Imagine that a wish has come true, and what would pleasure lovers do without suffering? Of course, they would immediately become ascetics, because their enjoyment would become boring very quickly and seemed bland.
Proverbs about laziness also sin in the same way. They always tell a person that being lazy is a terrible crime. But is it? Of course, it is clear that all the proverbs and sayings come from those social groups in which all existence depended on labor. Therefore, they were forced to come up with horror incentives for the younger generation. For example, a terrible phrase: "Laziness is worse than the disease." Or another: â- Laziness, laziness, open the door, burn! âThough I burn, I will not open.â Proverbs about laziness are required to be similar, so that from an early age they inspire awe in children. Of course, not all of them are like that. There are softer ones. They have been known to everyone since childhood: âWater does not flow under a lying stoneâ; âHay to sleep on hayâ; âItâs hard for him to live, who runs away from workâ, etc.
Laziness as a signal of the body that there is no more strength to work
A man could not work all the time, neither when he was working on the earth, nor now, when most of our brotherâs life passes by the computer. Labor and laziness should be combined in human life as harmoniously as suffering and pleasure. The formula is simple: to work efficiently, you need to have a good rest. When a person is lazy, then he is tired and can no longer work efficiently. He needs a rest. A biological organism is a rather complicated thing and quite logical. There is nothing superfluous in it. Even illnesses arise because the content of some substances in us people goes beyond the bounds of the established norm.
Laziness as a medicine
Laziness is like wine. In small doses it is a medicine, in large doses it is poison. If you do not rest, then you can die at about 40 years old, i.e. after 15 miserable years of work. And if you relax, you can live a very long time and get pleasure from work.
Laziness in large doses is bad because if it is excessive, a person degrades and ceases to be a professional staff. As N.A. wrote Zobolotsky: "The soul must work ...". So, not only the soul, but also the body.
People are usually afraid of laziness, and in almost any culture it is perceived as a negative phenomenon. Hence the proverb: "... and laziness spoils." The first part, of course, should be: "Labor feeds ..."
The position of modernity. "Mother Sloth"
Maybe someone will find it funny, but our modernity is clearing the well-known proverb âLaziness mother was born ahead of youâ from a negative meaning. All kinds of information sources are crammed with ways of how you can relax. Now the question of how to get yourself to work is no longer acute , tormenting people is completely different now: how to stop and rest. Of course, as before, âlabor (proverb) feeds, and laziness spoilsâ many, but it would be useful for some to fall to motherâs laziness and finally take a timeout.
Just rest not like most people are accustomed to, go south and there you can still get your nerves up with deafening music and alcohol, but, on the contrary, visit, for example, reserved places or become a visitor to the sanatorium for the entire vacation period and forget all the proverbs about laziness time.
