After watching the next title, ongoing or anime series, one involuntarily asks oneself where the Japanese get these strange, untranslatable words. Amaterasu, Susanno, Izanagi, Izanami, ̶ and this is just the beginning of the list. It turns out that these are just the names of deities from Japanese mythology.
Ancient legend
Practice shows that the Japanese are too attached to their past in general, and mythology in particular. It is not customary for us to recall the old giving without an objective reason for this, but for them it is not customary to forget about them. The myth of Izanagi and Izanami tells how Japan was created.
Deities stood on the Heavenly Bridge and peered into the abyss. Involuntarily they asked themselves if the earth exists under the bridge floating in the sky. Only no one could answer them this question. Therefore, Izanagi and Izanami decided to find out about everything on their own. Dipping a spear of precious stones, they found the ocean below.
Having raised the magical artifact from which the water flowed, they created the island - Onogoro-jima from thickened drops.
Children
Izanagi and Izanami went down to this island and got married. After the allotted time, their daughter Amaterasu, the Goddess of the Sun, was born. The next child was the God of the Moon - Tsukuemi. The third child was the valiant, quick and quick-tempered God-husband Susanno. The youngest son of Izanagi and Izanami was the God of Fire Kagutsuti.
The birth of the last child undermined Izanami's health, and she went to the land of the dead - Yemi. Izanagi followed her, but was never able to return his beloved. He returned to earth, erected a gloomy refuge on the island of Awaji and locked himself in it. They say that he remains there to this day.
Dojutsu of the Uchiha clan
Now back to the anime “Naruto”. The names of the gods who created Japan and their children in the series are shinobi techniques. In the anime “Naruto,” the Izanagi and Izanami are the absolute Dojutsu of the Uchiha clan. Let's talk about each of them separately.
So, Izanami. This is genjutsu (illusion), which affects the opponent with the help of physical sensations, affecting all five senses, instead of chakra flows. Using this technique, the Sharingan goes blind and loses its light forever. Itachi Uchiha said that Izanagi and Izanami mated. But while Izanagi “changes destiny”, Izanami “rules her”.
Under the influence of Izanami, the victim remains in place, but the cycle of events is constantly repeated inside her mind. This is a kind of temporary loop, every time when events begin to repeat, the damage caused earlier disappears. The victim is able to be aware of her actions and to act differently each time, but she cannot change the final result. You can only cancel this technique by accepting your fate.
Another illusion
Izanagi is also a genjutsu, but unlike the previous technique, it is used on itself, and not on the enemy. The one who uses it blurs the line between reality and illusion within his personal space, which helps him control his condition.
Usually this technique works for a limited amount of time, but even this is enough to exhaust the enemy. Skillful shinobi is able to expand the coverage of Izanagi and cover all the people who are nearby. The user himself remains real and can fully fight, and the technique helps him turn current situations, including injuries and death, into an illusion. When a user is injured, it seems to dissipate, and after some time it comes back safe and sound.
Only descendants of the Sage of the Six Ways, that is, the Uchiha clan, can use this technique. But for any power you need to give something in return. Using Sharingan as a medium, the user is deprived of vision and, accordingly, of strength. You can use this technique only in critical situations, usually its effect lasts several moments. Due to such serious consequences, the Uchiha clan assigned the technique the status of Kinjutsu, which means “forbidden”.
The maximum duration of Izanaga is a minute. This progress was made by Danzo Shimura, who transplanted ten Sharingans and Hashirama Senju DNA into his right hand.
You can learn more about the techniques of Izanaga and Izanami from the 338 series of the anime “Naruto: The Hurricane Chronicles.” Here, Itachi tells us that Izanami was created to stop Izanagi and shows on Kabuto how this strange “temporary loop” works. Izanagi in action can be seen in episode 209 of the second Naruto season, when Sasuke battles Danzo.
And so there are strange, untranslatable names. Ancient traditions become sources of inspiration and turn into something new, more powerful, sometimes cruel, but always unforgettable.
