The Wolfenstein series of games is one of the most famous not only in the genre of FPS (First-Person shooter - first-person shooter), but also among computer games in general. This franchise is popular not only due to the drive, the twisted plot and atmosphere, but also, not least, due to the charismatic enemies and bosses. The main one is Wilhelm Totenkopf Strasse.
Wolfenstein Game Series
The first two games of the series were released in the eighties and did not gain much popularity. They were made in the genre of stealth action with a top view. The real breakthrough was the third franchise game, which was released in 1992 under the name Wolfenstein 3D. It was one of the world's first first-person shooter games. The main character named BJ Blaskowitz (he is the protagonist of all subsequent games in the series), an American special agent, has to get out of Wolfenstein Castle (Wolfstone, in reality did not exist), where he is held as a prisoner.
Subsequently, several more games saw the light, all in the same genre, each of which was warmly received by the public and highly praised by critics. Almost all games, starting in 2001, were nominated by various game publications and exhibitions for the Shooter of the Year awards.
The franchise story has been restarted, starting with the game Return to Castle Wolfenstein (RtCW for short, Return to Castle Wolfenstein). This game began again with BJ's escape from the castle. In the course of action, he revealed the Nazi plans to conduct monstrous occult experiments on corpses that lead to the undead being raised in the crypts of the castle, thwarted a missile attack on London and, most importantly, learned about the development of the German super weapon - the Ubersoldat.
In the 2009 Wolfenstein game, Blaskowitz continues to struggle with the occult research of the Nazis, who plan to defeat the war and seize power over the planet with the help of witchcraft and various wunderwaffes.
Further parts of the series tell us an alternative history of the world in which the Germans practically defeated the allied forces and captured the rest of the state. Blaskowitz is trying to resist them, fighting with hordes of both ordinary soldiers and victims of genetic engineering.
Wilhelm Strasse
General Wilhelm Strasse, nicknamed Totenkopf (from the German "Skull", "Dead Head") - the main opponent of BJ in the parts "Return to the Wolfenstein Castle", "Wolfenstein" and "Wolfenstein: The New Order. He is the Obergruppenführer of the SS and the head of his department of special studies. It was under the leadership of the Skull that the Nazis carried out terrible research in the field of occult magic and secret technologies.
Nothing is said about the past Strass during the game, we only know about him that was shown directly during the events of the series. It is only known that he is the holder of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with oak leaves and swords. This is a rather high award established in the Wehrmacht, which during the war years were awarded only 160 people. We can also see in Wolfenstein (2009) he has the badge "For Injury" in gold. This symbolizes the fact that Totenkompf received at least five battle wounds, moreover, all at different times.
Name and nicknames
The name Wilhelm Strasse alludes unambiguously to the Case of Wilhelmstrasse - the latest and longest process in a series of Nuremberg trials against Nazi war criminals after the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. The case was so unofficially called due to the fact that it was tried by various German ministers and commanders-in-chief. And most of the main military institutions were located exactly on Wilhelmstrasse ("Wilhelm Street", a government street in Berlin).
As for nicknames, in the original his nickname sounds like Totenkopf. In different translations and in different parts he is called differently: Totenkopf, Skull, Dead Head, Death Head. In fact, these are all synonyms. The most appropriate translation would be "Skull", as it is more suitable for a nickname - short, sonorous, relatively accurate.
But the closest to the translation would be Dead Head. That's right, Totenkopf in German and Dead Head in Russian, is called the third SS Panzer Division. Most likely, it was in honor of this brutal division that the antagonist of the game was named.
Rtcw
In Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Wilhelm Strasse led the Wehrmacht research campaign to create Super soldiers. The first experiments were not particularly successful, the Nazis only tried to "grope" for a development vector that would not lead to death or complete insanity of the experimental subjects.
Blaskowitz destroyed the laboratories of the Germans, having failed all plans to create a superweapon, and then fought with the main brainchild of the Skull - Uber-soldier. After the defeat of his best fighter, Strasse escaped in a jet plane.
Wolfenstein
In the next part, the Nazis discover a source of magical energy - the Black Sun. It is located in the city of Eisenstadt, where a detachment of researchers headed by Viktor Zetta is sent. After Blaskowitz kills him, Wilhelm Strasse the Dead Head replaces Zette. He orders to abduct and kill Carolina Becker, the leader of the Resistance, and then activate a new super-weapon on Zeppelin to test his strength.
Blaskowitz with battle hits Zeppelin and discovers a portal to the Black Sun there. He kills the super-soldier, the assistant to Strasse, destroys the magic medallions leading to the dimension of the Black Sun and brings down the airship. The BJ himself during the crash jumps with a parachute, and the Skull miraculously survives after the explosion.
Wolfenstein: The New Order
In the New Order, Blaskowitz with a detachment breaks into Strass's lair, but he manages to capture them. The skull recognizes the sworn enemy and informs him that he will kill one of his two friends, inviting BJ to choose who exactly. If he does not choose, then Strasse will kill all three. After killing the chosen one, he takes his brain and leaves. The BJ erupts with the remaining partner, but is injured and falls into a coma.
After 14 years, Blaskowitz meets Strasse again when the Third Reich captures all of Europe. The skull transplanted his friend's brain into a robot, but Blaskowitz copes with it. Then the general himself transplanted into an armored suit, but the American intelligence officer defeats him too, pulls Strasse out of his suit and stabs him with a knife. Before his death, the general blows himself up with a grenade, but Blaskowitz manages to survive.
