Connecting a gas boiler: diagram, instructions, recommendations

Connecting gas boilers on their own is quite difficult. Firstly, these types of equipment are high-tech and hazardous devices. Secondly, there are several connection options, the type and stages of installation of which depend on individual conditions and the type of device.

How to connect a gas boiler

Single boiler gas boiler connection diagram

The single-section unit is equipped with one heat exchanger, which serves to heat water in one loop compartment. Until recently, such equipment was used only for heating houses; now they are successfully working to provide hot water by adding indirect heating to the storage system.

Depending on the size and power generated, the "single-circuit" is available in floor or wall configuration. The first options are heavier and more powerful than double-circuit analogues, they are used for heating large cottages and houses, as well as supplying residents with hot water. The peculiarities of connecting such a device include the fact that only a pair of pipes with a coolant can be connected to it. On one element it is supplied for heating, and on the other pipe it leaves already warm. In this embodiment, the liquid circulates in the heating system, returning to the tank for re-heating. To relieve excess pressure, an expansion tank and a safety valve are mounted in the structure.

Connection to indirect heating boiler

The simplest scheme for connecting a gas boiler to an indirect storage tank is to use a three-way valve. In this case, the boiler is a hermetic thermal capacity, which serves to store water supplies, which must be heated. A heat exchanger in the form of a spiral is provided inside the drive, through which hot liquid passes.

In this scheme, priority is the provision of hot water. After the sensor is triggered on the boiler, a three-mode valve enters into operation, after which the heated carrier is fed into the drive. There, heat is transferred to water, after which it comes back for re-heating. The circulation will continue until the water in the boiler is heated to the required temperature. Then the valve is activated, the coolant switches to heating mode until the water cools down again in the drive.

While the water is warming, the heat carrier is not transported through heating pipes. The heating time of the drive depends directly on its volume. For example, a tank with a capacity of 200 liters is heated in six hours, while heating the water will take about fifty minutes. This critically does not affect the internal climate of the home, for such a period of time the house does not have time to cool down.

With two circuits

The specified unit differs from a single-circuit analogue by the presence of two heat exchangers. The main one heats the heating fluid, the second element provides hot water. This design is usually an automated boiler room, and the main elements are mounted on the wall.

What is the connection diagram for a gas boiler with two circuits? The automation of such a boiler is built-in. In standard mode, the coolant heated in the main circuit enters the heating system, and after cooling it is fed back. According to this scheme, the "boiler-heating-boiler" mode operates. When the hot water tap is opened, cold water enters the other pipe for heating. The three-way valve automatically redirects the medium to an additional heat exchanger, the water for the hot water supply is heated until the tap is closed. After that, the heating mode is switched on again.

Practice shows that a boiler with two circuits is not able to guarantee a large amount of hot water. One source, such as a kitchen or shower, is provided. In this case, the water will be moderately warm. This is due to the fact that the unit simply does not have time to heat the liquid in the proper amount. Such equipment is suitable for small families, otherwise a boiler connection is required.

Double-circuit boiler and storage

Correct connection of wall-mounted gas heating boilers to the indirect indirect boiler according to the standard scheme makes it possible to heat water directly in the tank. In this case, the fluid supply to the additional circuit will circulate in a closed circle. This nuance makes it possible to extend the working life of the boiler, which is negatively affected by tap water.

The DHW heat exchanger wears out and fails in 1-2 years. For this reason, the work of a purified coolant is an economical option. It is quite possible to connect gas boilers with two circuits to a standard electric storage boiler. At the same time, water will flow into the boiler, and if the volume decreases to a critical point, the automatics will work, the tank is filled with water from the boiler, the operating temperature is maintained with the help of heating elements.

Heating arrangement

Connecting heating to a gas boiler should start by studying the instructions. This is necessary to determine the configuration of pipes and conclusions. If the system was used previously and you just need to replace the boiler, the design is freed from the coolant and washed several times. This will allow you to clean the walls of the elements from salts and deposits, which will clog the elements of the heat exchanger.

The working agent in the heating unit may be water or antifreeze. In the second case, you need to make sure that the unit is designed to work with this type of fluid. Some manufacturers give recommendations on what type of antifreeze to use, some produce it themselves. If you live in the house year-round, it is better to use water. Antifreeze has several disadvantages:

  • low heat capacity;
  • increased rate of thermal expansion;
  • significant viscosity;
  • High power pump and boiler required.

In favor of water is the fact that on modern models you can set the safety mode. The liquid, having reached a temperature of +5 degrees, begins to heat up automatically.

Connection

To connect gas heating boilers, the following elements will be required:

  • ball valve;
  • primary filter;
  • circulation pump, if necessary;
  • detachable connection "American".

The circulation pump is always mounted on the "return". Ball valves serve to facilitate the disconnection of the system from the unit without draining the coolant, allow you to quickly remove the filter for preventive purposes and cleaning. A filter is needed to protect the heat exchanger from salts and other deposits. It is installed in front of the boiler, if possible in a horizontal position, while the catcher should look down. The direction of fluid flow should coincide with the corresponding indicator arrows on the body of the element.

Wall gas boiler connection

When connecting gas boilers, a pipe with a heated carrier should be connected to the boiler nozzle. For this purpose, an American-type threaded connection and a shut-off valve in the form of a ball valve are used. Faucets are mounted on the inlets and outlets to drain the refrigerant in the summer or, if necessary, to carry out repairs.

Aggregation of a double-circuit boiler with hot water supply

Connecting a gas boiler to the system will require the required elements:

  • coarse fine filter or magnetic equivalent;
  • ball valves;
  • threaded quick-detachable connection "American".

To protect the heat exchanger from scale and extend its service life, a magnetic filter and an analogue of rough cleaning are mounted on a cold water inlet pipe. If one of the elements is already installed in front of the water meter, it does not make sense to put it again. A hot water outlet element is connected using a ball valve to a branch pipe with a check valve. All connecting places are treated with hermetic paste.

Electrical connection

There are two ways to connect floor gas boilers to the mains. In the first version, a cable with a plug for the outlet is used, in the second case, a three-core insulated wire. Regardless of the method, it is necessary to connect the unit through a stand-alone circuit breaker directly to the shield, while not forgetting about grounding. Not unnecessary in the design will be stabilizing elements and redundant power supplies. The disconnecting safety circuit breaker is mounted near the boiler for quick and safe shutdown.

Connection of a floor gas boiler

Remember that it is forbidden to ground the boiler on heating or gas pipe parts. The quality of work in this direction is due to the arrangement of special or point grounding. The resistance of the ground loop should not exceed 10 ohms. This is due to the absence of repeated grounding elements on most power transmission line poles.

Chimney connection

The connection scheme of the gas boiler to the chimney depends on what type of hood is used: coaxial or conventional. Parapet versions do not need it at all. In the instructions for the unit, these requirements are also indicated. In many sets, the chimney is supplied with the boiler, it only needs to be installed correctly.

It should be borne in mind that the diameter of the exhaust element must correspond to or be slightly larger than the same size of the outlet pipe. Usually this indicator depends on the power of the unit. Conventional modifications are brought up, rising above the ridge of the roof by 500 millimeters. They can be mounted in the wall, inside the home or behind the wall. No more than three bends are allowed on the entire site.

The first compartment of the pipe connection of the boiler with the chimney is not more than 250 mm. The element must have a control hole for preventative cleaning. For models with conventional chimneys and an open combustion compartment, a significant flow of air is required, which is ensured by a separate supply unit or an open window.

The instruction for connecting gas boilers states that the chimney should be made of roofing sheet or similar material that is not exposed to acids. The same rule applies to sections of joints, turns and knees. It is forbidden to connect the boiler and the main chimney by means of a corrugation or a brick structure. The fact is that in the process of combustion vaporous masses are formed, saturated with active acids, which condense, precipitate, corroding the walls of the outlet element.

Coaxial chimney is installed in a horizontal position, discharged directly into the wall. This design is a pipe placed in another, different in diameter. On the inside of the fumes are removed from the main unit, and on the outside, air is supplied to the combustion chamber. This feature makes it possible to actively heat the air and increase the efficiency of the system.

When connecting a gas boiler with your own hands, note that the coaxial chimney must be at least 500 mm away from the wall. When installing a conventional boiler, the exhaust pipe is placed with a slight slope towards the street. This will allow the condensate to drain into a special siphon discharged into the sewer. As a rule, all the nuances of installation are prescribed in the instruction manual. The limiting length of the coaxial element is 3-5 meters, the smaller it is, the greater the design of bends and turns.

Thermostat Implementation

The thermostat is connected to the boiler to ensure the efficiency of the system. The device is mounted in the most remote room or in a place that serves as a reference point for determining the temperature norm. The specified device will inform the automation of the unit about a critical decrease in temperature, after which the coolant automatically heats up until the thermostat signals that the desired temperature has been reached.

When connecting gas boilers in private houses, the specified equipment is mounted on the inner wall of the house at a distance of 1.5 meters from the floor in height. The device must not be affected by external heat sources, direct sunlight, drafts or vibrational forces. On the latest boiler models, there are special terminals on which the contacts are closed, which indicates the need for a signal to heat the coolant. For normal operation of the thermostat, the fixing jumper is removed, and then the device is connected using a two-wire wire with a cross section of 0.75 sq. mm

Total

To connect the boiler to the heating system or hot water supply, you must consult a specialist. Independent actions lead not only to security breaches, but also fines for unauthorized connections. If you still decide to take a chance, remember that you need to supply gas only through a corrugated pipe made of stainless steel or steel, rubber hoses are categorically inappropriate here.
