Stromantha is a houseplant belonging to the group of arrowroots. It is often confused with calathea due to very similar leaves. This indoor plant does not like drafts and dry air, it just needs high humidity.
Stromantha, which is properly managed at home, has a light green leaf color with darker veins. Leaves that turn yellow or start to dry out usually indicate excessively dry indoor air.
Stromantha: home care tips
Temperature mode
The best temperature for this plant should be constantly within 20 degrees. The stromant does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature and can get sick from them.
Humidity
The plant needs to create conditions under which the humidity will be very high. Daily spraying will only benefit him.
Lighting
It is better to place the stromanthus flower in partial shade, in no case should it be allowed for direct sunlight to somehow fall on the plant.
Watering
In summer, the plant should be watered approximately every 3 days, avoiding overdrying of the land. In winter, watering is performed once a week. Water for irrigation should have a room temperature.
Stromantha, which is properly cared for at home, has a strong root system, and therefore easily tolerates both transplanting and reproduction by dividing the bush.
A transplant is best done every two years. The pot should not be used deep, but wide, since the root system of the plant develops shallow underground: in width. It is preferable to use special soil for the arrowroot species.
Stromantha - home care, growing problems
The main problems in caring for the plant are the yellowed or drying ends of the leaves. There is only one reason - insufficient air humidity. Sometimes novice growers make a mistake and put the plant near heating appliances or batteries. This is not worth doing. Stromante is quite a warm place on the windowsill.
Yellowing leaves may also indicate a lack of moisture in the soil. In this case, it is advisable to place the plant on a pallet with wet pebbles or sand.
A spider mite can become a very big problem for stromants. It is not difficult to get rid of it - just wipe the leaves with water, into which a drop of dishwashing detergent has been added.
Sometimes the plant also affects a pest such as mealybug. In this case, the leaves are wiped with a cotton swab moistened with alcohol, strongly affected areas are removed. Pests are dangerous in that if they are not noticed in time, they will spread very quickly, and this will lead to twisting and falling of the leaves of such a plant as a stromant.
Types of this flower are quite common, but most often you can find "Pleasant Stromantha." It is less demanding on growing conditions and pretty well survives.
Stromantha, which is cared for correctly and accurately, does not cause trouble to its owners, but only pleases them with its lush green foliage and decorative appearance.
