Let's look at the connections between the concepts of “family” and “marriage”. These two significant words occurred in different historical times. Marriage is a changing form of relationship that occurs between a woman and a man. Using this form, society regulates sex life, and also establishes parental, conjugal duties and rights. The family performs a more complex method of relations: it has the peculiarity of uniting not only husband and wife, but also their common children, as well as relatives. Along with the development of society, a family develops under the influence of social and economic conditions.
Throughout the history of mankind, a lot of forms of social management of relations between a man and a woman have been replaced. Whatever they were, absolutely everything corresponded to economic and social conditions. Once upon a time, primitive people lived in an disordered form of sexual relations, because then there were no restrictions. They were created a little later. Over time, such relationships began to disrupt the lives of primitive people. The pre-community has a dilemma: either constant readiness and death, or cyclical readiness and a return to the former, more dependent state of nature. Therefore, in order to curb such a bestial sexual instinct, they began to create prohibitions. These taboos helped primitive people keep themselves within the established framework.
In relations between men and women, sexual relations between relatives (parents and children) were excluded. This can be considered the boundary in history among people before marriage, when their sex life was subject only to natural instincts, and after marriage, when the attraction to the opposite sex was manifested exclusively within the family. And it became impossible to marry sisters, marry a brother or father. The strictest ban was established on this.
A new form of relationship
However, with the advent of such changes in society, when the clan and tribe began to form, a group marriage arose. This is such a form of relationship between a man and a woman that required the prohibition of sexual relations within the same primitive family. It was allowed to contact only representatives from another tribe. Such a ban is scientifically called "exogamy." And some researchers give an explanation of how primitive people came to this.

The group form of marriage probably for these reasons and appeared. But such unions did not lead to the creation of families. It turned out that the children were common, that is, belonged to the whole family, and, accordingly, their education was carried out by the whole commune. Primitive people believed that husbands weren’t biologically related to children born of their wives.
They were convinced that the woman was pregnant from the coming of the spirit that instilled a child into her body. And her external connection was not considered a betrayal, because, according to the men, in their absence the spirit came to the woman and impregnated her.

We learned that group marriage is a form of relationship between people from different families, clans or tribes. For example, women and men from one tribe could have sexual contacts with representatives from a different kind, but never with each other. Group marriage in Russia also existed, and probably still exists today, only no one talks about it. Over time, such relationships have become unacceptable in our society. Group marriage was replaced by a pair, when one man is married to one woman, and there are no strangers between them. This is the family. Fathers know their children, and all this is documented. A woman’s “sideways” walk is considered treason.
In our modern society, group marriage - this is something out of the ordinary and is considered shameful - such families do not take seriously. Now, in general, young people do not seek to bond themselves with family ties and especially to have children. According to them, marriage is too complicated and responsible.
Group marriage eventually gave rise to matriarchy, which lasted for many years. But then others came to replace these times ... Dads wanted to know their children exactly, and this type of marriage died. Today around the world, perhaps, there are several peoples who practice a similar lifestyle. But matriarchy and group marriage gave way to monogamous, which means that the time has come for virginity and patriarchy. In modern families, men are leaders, they are considered heads, all responsibility for their relatives rests on their shoulders.
