Save method
At the beginning of the passage of the plot, the game will notify you that the saving is carried out by checkpoints. This means that progress persists not only after each successful mission, but after key events. For example, you are chasing an enemy mafia. The persecution ends in an abandoned warehouse, where there will be a long and difficult shootout. When you arrive at your final destination, the game automatically saves your current progress. If you fail in the shootout, then the mission will not start again, but from the last checkpoint.
Why is "Mafia 2" not saved?

First, you closed the game window using Alt + F4 ahead of schedule. The game warns you that you can not turn off the PC or application while the save icon is on the screen. Because of this, all progress can be reset.
The second reason is damage to save files. If you use a licensed copy of Steam, then just check the integrity of the game files through a special service. If you play the pirated version, then download the save from any gaming site. They must be copied to the Mafia II folder, which is located on the system partition of the hard drive along the path Users / username / AppData / Local / 2K Games.
