History

For the great musician and composer Sergei Rachmaninov, the old manor owned by the landowner Alexander Satin became the real second home in which he spent all the warm months from 1890 until the revolution itself.

Simple landscapes of native nature gave the composer an amazing creative inspiration, it was here, in Ivanovka, that he worked most easily, his most significant works were created here.

The real connection with this small Tambov village appeared with the composer when he married the landowner's daughter Natalia Satina. Ivanovka turned into a family estate, where the daughters of Rachmaninov, Irina and Tatyana, grew up.

Reconstruction and creation of the museum

During the Civil War, all the buildings of the estate were destroyed. Restoration of buildings began only in 1968, when the only center in memory of the composer, the Rakhmaninov Museum-Estate "Ivanovka", was created on the site of the former landowner’s house. All buildings were restored according to old drawings and diagrams - the house became an absolute copy of a real estate. Not only the external walls were restored, but the interior details and household items were recreated bit by bit. The work lasted several decades. Currently, the estate has been restored almost completely, including courtyards.

The most painstaking work to create small architectural details was carried out according to old photographs. Today it is impossible to find significant differences between the old house of the landowner Satin and the complex of buildings in the village of Ivanovka. The Rachmaninov Museum-Estate (photos on which you can compare buildings and interiors, confirm this) has regained its original form.

Museum cultural and scientific work

The first visitors entered the doors of the museum back in 1982. Even then, various festivals and cultural events began to be organized here. Over time, many of them became regular, some became international. Vocal and music assemblies, the Lilac Festival, and events such as Jazz in Ivanovka and Starry Summer have been gathering connoisseurs of the composer's art for more than 30 years in the Rakhmaninov Museum-Estate complex. Ivanovka always welcomes guests.

Since the beginning of the new century, various musical competitions of vocalists, pianists and folklore groups have been held at the estate. In 2012, the first major competition of piano ensembles was held here. The estate hosts folklore holidays, which have already been appreciated not only by adults, but also by small visitors to the museum.

It hosts scientific conferences and international meetings on the subject of the works of Sergei Rachmaninov.

What does the museum live today?
