The external structures of buildings for various purposes must be protected from the negative effects of the environment: precipitation, temperature extremes and ultraviolet radiation. Facade paints "Tikkurila" have long been used for these purposes, both professional builders and individual developers. The time-tested Finnish manufacturer is constantly expanding its product range, paying particular attention to improving paint and varnish components.
Advantages of Tikkurila Products
The main advantages of facade paints "Tikkurila" include:
- environmental friendliness (Finns always pay special attention to this indicator);
- durability (up to 10 years);
- wide choose;
- ease of use and further operation;
- low consumption;
- the best ratio of parameters such as price and quality.
Varieties
Depending on the material on which they can be applied, Finnish products are divided into:
- for the protection of buildings made of wood, fiberboard, chipboard or OSB;
- for concrete, plastered and stone walls;
- universal, designed to be applied to most modern building materials.
According to the components from which protective coatings are made, they are divided into:
- alkyd and acrylate-oil;
- acrylic (based on water or solvents);
- silicone-containing.
Main characteristics
Main characteristics of facade paints "Tikkurila" for outdoor use:
- Drying time, which depends on the component composition (from 60 minutes - for water-based products, up to 24 hours - for alkyd-oil).
- Consumption, which depends on the material being processed and the application method, varies from 0.09 to 0.25 liters per 1 mΒ².
- The presence of odor. This indicator is inherent only to brands containing oils or organic solvents. The main varieties of Tikkurila products are odorless at all.
- The ambient temperature for basic preparations should be at least + 5 Β° C (for frost-resistant - up to -20 Β° C).
For concrete and stone buildings
Due to its strength, concrete (as well as slabs and blocks made on its basis) remains the most popular building material in the construction of various buildings (residential buildings, shopping centers, industrial enterprises and many others). However, without proper protection from the outside, the durability of such structures is significantly reduced.
Among the preparations intended for application on concrete, plastered and stone walls, one can distinguish the popular line of facade paints "Tikkurila Euro Facade". Now the company produces three varieties of these products based on acrylic. Their characteristics are quite similar: consumption is almost the same and ranges from 0.12 Γ· 0.17 to 0.25 liters per 1 mΒ²; application at low freezing temperatures is possible. However, there are some differences in the components:
- Euro Facade. In its production, special solvents are used.
- Euro Facade Aqua is made on the basis of water, which is used to give the solution the necessary viscosity.
- Euro Facade Plus includes special silicone and biocidal additives.
For the first two types, the drying period leaves about 60 minutes, for the third - 12 hours.
Of course, the products of the Finnish manufacturer for concrete substrates are not limited to only these three types of coatings. The choice is quite wide and varied. So, for example, the acrylic facade paint "Tikkurila Kivitex KA" thanks to the special additives included in its composition, allows repair and construction work at an ambient temperature of up to -20α΅. But Finngard has increased resistance to various alkalis.
For wooden surfaces
Wood, as the most environmentally friendly natural material, is now very popular in both individual and low-rise commercial construction. To protect the exterior of such buildings from the negative effects of the environment, the company has developed a line of special coatings.
Among products based on acrylate, Ultra Classic should be noted. Ease of use, high speed of drying (no more than 1 hour), the ability to be applied to already painted wooden structures provided this variety with wide popularity.
The usual alkyd-oil Teho (with the addition of organic solvents) has a rather long period of complete drying - a day. In comparison, the water-borne Pika-Teho (with the addition of oil) dries in only 60 minutes.
For universal use
For numerous owners of small country houses, the Tikkurila company has developed a special composition on the alkyd base Garden 10. Using it, you can successfully paint:
- stone, brick or metal fence;
- wooden beam structure;
- cladding walls;
- gypsum plasterboard, chipboard or OSB internal partitions;
- concrete steps and more.
Consumption is very economical and amounts to 0.1 Γ· 0.13 liters per 1 mΒ². Drying time - no more than 4 hours.
Surface preparation
The preparatory stage before applying a substance such as Tikkurila facade paint is no different from using products from other manufacturers:
- Thoroughly clean the surface of dirt and foreign impurities mechanically.
- If water was used for cleaning, then we wait for the walls to completely dry.
- Cracks, significant recesses and junctions of building elements are sealed with an appropriate solution.
- We carry out a preliminary primer (if necessary) in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
How to paint
Almost all Tikkurila facade paints are quite versatile in the way they are applied. Depending on the area of ββthe treated surface, technological conditions, and often personal preferences of the painter, for the work you can use both ordinary hand brushes and rollers, as well as special devices for mechanical spraying. The brand of solvent (for example, water or special formulations from the manufacturer, as well as their analogues) and the proportions to achieve the desired viscosity are indicated on the package.
Important! Regardless of the method chosen, work must be carried out in the direction of "top-down". The second layer is equipped only after a period of time recommended by the manufacturer.
Tinting paint
All Tikkurila products for external use, with rare exceptions, produce white (base) color. To give the compositions a wide variety of colors, special tinting additives are used. For convenience of choice, the manufacturer provides a very convenient device to use - the Tikkurila palette. In appearance, it is a notebook or fan with color swatches. Each shade has its own identification number.
This allows you to very quickly make the color you need right when you buy. Almost all official dealers, and many large stores selling material, provide this service either for free or at fairly humane prices.
The tikkurila tinting palette is available in three varieties:
- for stone facades;
- for external wooden surfaces;
- for interior work indoors.
