It is pleasant to live in a clean, warm room, created according to the design project, but the appearance of the house is also important. Successfully designed facade will emphasize the status and taste of the owner. For walls, putty is usually used for exterior work. Its main goal is to hide any surface imperfections, as well as sound and heat insulation. Since the external walls are more damaged due to weather conditions and precipitation, the hard putty for outdoor work often contains cement and synthetic resins, which provide its special strength.
Varieties of puttyBuilders distinguish the following main types of it:
- Dry plaster.
- Acrylic
The first, as is already clear from the name itself, has the form of a powder that needs to be dissolved. Basically, up to 8 liters of water have to be taken per 20 kg of dry mixture, it is better to prepare it in accordance with the recommendations of the instruction. By its consistency, the mixture should resemble tomato paste. Dry putty for outdoor use can be stored for more than a year, but if it is diluted with water, then it should be used within three hours. This type of building material is made of cement, to which certain components are added, for example polymers, marble flour, mineral additives. The color of the putty can be any.
The second type - acrylic putty for outdoor use - is sold ready-made. It has the consistency of a thick cream, is elastic, making it easy to apply to any surface. Its other advantages are:
- quick drying;
- environmental friendliness;
- ease of use;
- moisture resistance;
- abrasion resistance.
In addition, acrylic putty for outdoor use, the price of which is slightly higher than dry, is particularly resistant to frost and precipitation. But for a perfect alignment of the walls it is better to use gypsum. Putty based on it is environmentally friendly and has good adhesion. For wooden surfaces, it is advisable to use a glue or oil type of this material.
The use of putty, its application
Before starting work, you need to choose the right time for puttying. This is best done on a sunny, warm day. The absence of rain, snow and dampness is a prerequisite, because otherwise the quality of the putty can significantly deteriorate. The work is best done in steps:
- Preparatory. It provides for thorough cleaning of the surface from any dirt, as well as from the remnants of previous paint or putty. All cracks, potholes are smoothed out thanks to plaster. The entire surface must be protected with a primer.
- Actually putty.
When performing work, it is necessary to use only stainless tools (plastic bucket, steel spatula, etc.). Putty should be applied with a uniform thin layer. Its thickness is 3 mm. There may be several such layers. This will provide better adhesion and coating strength. When applied correctly per square meter, 1.1-1.2 kg of putty is consumed. You can reduce the cost of facade repair through the use of various types of materials. So, coarse putty is suitable as a starting one. Its thickness can reach 5 mm, because the main task is to maximize the alignment of the wall.
Finishing putty for outdoor work is used already at the end of the work. It should be as smooth as possible, because it is on it that paint is applied. If the work is done as it should, the facade for many years will delight the appearance of both the owners of the house and passers-by.
