A few years ago, the whole country was in a boom. Gardening shops, supermarket shelves were filled with inexpensive pots with conifers of all colors and sizes. The imported Dutch seedlings, as a rule, were without labels and came under the same name - “coniferous mixes”.
Of course, everyone knows that the word “mix” translates as “mixture”. Gardening enthusiasts have a great opportunity at a low price to purchase several representatives of the coniferous family. It’s not particularly difficult to grow a coniferous mix. Leaving (photo mixes below), of course, is required, but the result is worth it.
In the home gardens here and there, tufts, fir trees, cypress trees and junipers began to appear. But after a couple of years, the already grown trees upset their owners with the tattered tattoos of a dead dead crown. The thing is that then coniferous mixes mainly consisted of capricious and heat-loving Lavson cypresses. Unfortunately, in our latitudes, these plants suffered from both winter frosts and the spring sun. And it’s a pity, because among them one could find real masterpieces. This is a Silver Queen cypress with beautiful silver-white shoots, and the same Ivonne Lavson with amazing lemon-yellow branches.
Coniferous mix - how to care for cypress
But do not get upset and exclude these plants from your garden. Only the columnar form will have to be abandoned, cypress trees will be grown in ground cover. But there will be an opportunity to create completely new compositions.
For this, very young plants are taken. After planting, you need to bend all the branches from the center to the sides and fix them with hornets. You can use other devices, one thing is important - the plant should resemble a spider. And as the shoots grow, you should rearrange the stalks. This is done twice a year. In the spring - as soon as the snow melts, and at the end of summer, so that the cypress before the cold weather “remembers” the new form. After a few years, its branches will root. With this kind of cultivation, preparing a plant for winter is very simple - just cover it with spruce branches (2 layers). You can show imagination and combine a haircut with bending branches. In addition to cypress trees, other conifers can also be grown in this way: these are pines, tueviks, and spruces.

For juniper, you need to choose a landing place.
suspended, sunny, with moist moist earth. The landing pit is dug up more than an earthen coma with roots twice. Then it is filled with a mixture of sand,
turf land and peat (1: 1: 2), after which nitroammophoska is added. Now you can
plant a plant. This is done so that the roots with an earthen lump are 10 cm above the soil level. Do not trample the earth around. The planted juniper needs to be well watered, and the earth with the seedling will settle itself.
The trunk circle is necessarily
mulched with mowed grass, peat, bark or humus. This will protect from frost in the winter, and in the summer it will protect against moisture loss. And, importantly, the earth in the pit will remain loose.
Everyone knows that all coniferous mixes, including juniper, are subject to burning. Therefore, in the summer they need to be shaded, and for protection against the bright spring sun, lapnik or lutrasil are used. In early spring, you should remove the dry branches and give the plant the necessary shape. Creeping species is pruned in summer. And bonsai are cut twice a year - this is April and October. As you can see, special knowledge and efforts for growing conifers are not required. So feel free to buy a coniferous mix and start growing it.
