Royal splendor, sophistication and elegant beauty of clematis could not leave indifferent domestic flower growers. And despite the fact that these plants are found only in the wild subtropics, bred into the culture, they are able to survive in the harsh conditions of the Russian climate.
Clematis are representatives of
the ranunculaceae family, which are shrubs, tree-like or herbaceous perennials. It is customary to classify many plant species according to categories accepted throughout the world and characterizing the characteristics of the formation of inflorescences:
• on the stems of the previous year (column A);
• on the shoots of the past and current years (column B);
• exclusively on the stems of the current year (column C).

Species features
The overwhelming majority of Jacqueman's clematis are varieties and hybrids bred by crossing cultures of Lanuginoza with varieties of Vititsella. As a rule, these are shrub-lianas with a powerful root system and stems reaching a length of 4-6 m. Decorative lianas are provided not only by long flowering, but also by a beautiful dense, complex-cirrus foliage. Various varieties of group C bloom with the formation of shoots of the current year and are represented by flowers of various sizes and shapes, single or collected in three buds, reaching a diameter of 7-8 to 20 cm.
Jacqueman clematis bloom generously and quite long. Their peculiarity is the lack of aroma, as well as white in the color of the flowers, in the palette of which, however, all possible shades are present.
Varieties
The enviable decorativeness of clematis is a fertile prerequisite for the creation of new varieties, but also the proven cultures received by breeders for a long time are appreciated by gardeners for their amazing sophistication and beauty. For example, such varieties that meet the preferences of many summer residents are popular:
• Rouge Cardinal - winner of prestigious international exhibitions, a vine with two-meter shoots and open cross-shaped flowers, distinguished by luxurious velvety purple sepals. Flowering is long and plentiful, lasting from July to October. The culture is moderately winter-hardy, it requires additional shelter.
• Star of India - shrub-liana with three-meter shoots and curly leaves of 3-5 slightly pointed parts. Blossoming flowers, reaching 15 cm in diameter, are painted in purple tones and have a bright purple middle stripe. It blooms in the 2nd half of summer.
• Gipsy Queen is a shade-tolerant shrub, forming up to 15 new shoots per season up to 3-3.5 m long. Large, upward-looking buds blooming with bright purple velvet flowers that practically do not fade in the sun and reach 15 cm in diameter are remarkable . The variety blooms generously from the second half of summer until the onset of frost, forming up to 20 buds on each stem. He is famous for his excellent resistance to various fungal diseases.
• Bella - a climbing vine with wax light yellow star-shaped flowers (up to 10-15 cm) covering two-meter stems. The variety is hardy and winter-hardy, immune to fungi. It blooms violently from early July to September.
Clematis Violet (Vititsella)
Among the representatives of the Jacqueman cultures, a special place is occupied by a plant with violet flowers - Vititzella clematis, which are also the basis for many new varieties. The talking name indicates the color of the flowers - violet-purple with varying degrees of intensity.
The flowers of this species are simple, rarely drooping. Fully bloomed, depending on the variety, they reach from 10 to 20 cm across. Fast-growing stems grow to 3-3.5 m per season. This species is represented by many varieties. Here are the most common ones:
• Ville de Lyon - a perennial liana with brown stems up to 3.5 m in length and purple flowers 10-15 m in diameter, directed upwards, located on long thin peduncles. During the season, the bush forms up to 15 stems, 12-15 flowers bloom on each of them.
• Viola - abundantly blooming variety with large densely violet flowers (10-14 cm), similar in shape to a propeller. Shoots growing up to 2.5 m are covered with decorative three-lobed leaves. Flowering begins in July and continues until the onset of cold weather.
• Polish Spirit - climbing vine with long 4-meter shoots, strewn with medium-sized (up to 8 cm) lilac flowers blooming in July. The bush remains decorative until October.
Features of flowering and care
Jacqueman clematis bloom profusely and for a long time. For example, in the Rouge Cardinal hybrid, the flowering time of each bud is 2-3 weeks. Clematis is always pruned before winter: the shoots are shortened to a height of 0.2 m and three to five pairs of growth buds are left on them.
They use climbing clematis in the vertical gardening of gardens, mansions, terraces, balconies and loggias, since, according to the acknowledgment of gardeners cultivating clematis in their own areas, plants develop well both in open ground and in closed containers. The only condition for the successful growth of culture is the availability of a stable support. It can serve as a trellis grid, a decorative arch, a railing or even a low tree.
Planting and growing
The plant is not picky. Clematis (or clematis) Jacqueman does not like the sun, preferring light partial shade on a site protected from the wind - the main enemy of culture. It is worth considering the structure of the support necessary for the plant. The height of the structure, whether it is a trellis net or something else, should be at least 1.5 m in height.
