MDF board: qualities and characteristics

Fibreboard - a fiberboard, a flat sheet of pressed wood of a certain size. It is made on the basis of fibers, which are the waste of sawmill processing. The material finds application in the performance of construction work, acts as one of the main production foundations in the furniture industry.

What is a fiberboard plate?

Fiberboard - a sheet material made by hot pressing of wood shavings and natural fibers with the addition of a number of binders. Typically, polymer resins are used as reinforcing additives. Additional components include the basics of chemical origin, which improve the waterproofing properties of the material.

fiberboard plate

A conventional fiberboard plate is made using:

  • Technological chips.
  • Paraffin wax.
  • Urea-formaldehyde resins.
  • Ammonium Chloride.

Fiberboard plate: dimensions

The thickness parameter of the wood-fiber material ranges from 2.5 to 40 mm. Such a range of sizes contributes to the selection of suitable foundations for the implementation of certain activities. Among other things, the purchase of thinner plates provides significant cost savings.

laminated particleboard

As for the area, the fiberboard plate can vary in length from 1.2 to 3 m and in width from 1.2 to 1.7 m. There is a special type of material whose parameters are 6.1x2.1 m. However, such a large fiberboard plate is used, most often, to meet the needs of production and only in exceptional cases is used to implement domestic tasks.

Marking

To facilitate the selection of a suitable material, a fiberboard plate is formed into bundles, each of which contains an information insert, which indicates:

  • Manufacturer.
  • Product name.
  • Scopes of application.
  • Rules for using the material.
  • Technical specifications.
  • Sizes.
  • Quantitative indicators in pieces and square meters.
  • Date when the fiberboard was made.
  • A stamp confirming the passage of technical control.

Application

Laminated fiberboard boards are widely used as thermal protection and sound insulation during the implementation of finishing measures. Moreover, material is used for these purposes not only in individual, but also in industrial construction.

fiberboard

Fiberboard is appreciated not only by its practical properties. The material stands out for its decorative qualities, which are due to the use of special coatings.

Wood fiber boards are actively used in the arrangement of floor coverings. Due to the high strength characteristics, even relatively thin sheets with a thickness of about 6-7 mm are able to withstand impressive pressure, eliminating the unevenness of a wooden or concrete base. Laying the material on the floor does not require the use of glue or fasteners in the form of nails, screws, etc.

Types

According to the features of the application and the manufacturing method, the following fiberboard is distinguished:

  1. Soft - relatively fragile, but have a porous structure, which becomes an indispensable property when you need to install sound and heat insulation.
  2. Semi-solid - a denser variety of material. It withstands impressive mechanical loads and is therefore involved in the manufacture of furniture elements.
  3. Solid - characterized by increased density, quality performance. Used as floors, the basis for the organization of partitions, flooring.
  4. Ennobled - have a carefully crafted outer surface coated with a paint layer. To give decorative qualities to the material, patterns and images are often applied. The main advantage is not so much practicality as an attractive appearance. The obvious disadvantage is the high cost.

Transportation and storage

Fiberboard is transported by freight, the conditions of which are able to protect the material from mechanical damage and natural precipitation.

plate fiberboard dimensions

If we talk about storage, bundles of fiberboard are stacked on blocks or pallets. The height of the latter should not exceed 4.5 m. They save the material in well-ventilated rooms with humidity not more than 70% and a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
