The first theater for children appeared in Yaroslavl in 1932 as an amateur theater. It consisted of participants in the propaganda brigades of the drama club of the music school.

The modern Youth Theater in Yaroslavl owes its birth to the outstanding playwright V. S. Rozov. Today the theater bears his name.
A new theater complex for children was opened in 1983. The architecture of the building is made in the style of postmodernism. The building was a compositional dominant, around which the entire space of the square was organized.
