Flexible copper multicore cable in rubber insulation: description, characteristics, application

Flexible copper stranded cable in rubber insulation is easy to install wire.

There are many varieties of such products. In such cables, several conductors are twisted together.

Copper cable

Choosing which option is more suitable, it is necessary to build on the situation itself and the goals of using such a product. At the same time, all varieties of flexible copper multicore cable in rubber insulation have their own characteristics, pluses and minuses.

Names

All flexible copper multicore cables in rubber insulation of general application are produced in accordance with the requirements of GOST 13497-77. This group includes, for example, a product such as KG.

It is universal. In terms of flexibility, the power multicore copper flexible cable belongs to category 5. Usually it is used for welding equipment, as well as for laying outside and inside buildings.

Rubber Insulated Cable

Another example is a shielded copper flexible multi-core cable KUPEV. It is used to transmit not very powerful management signals. This also includes the control cable flexible copper multicore KUPV.

Belong to the 4th and 5th classes of flexibility. Separately, there are modifications with a braid of tinned, galvanized and stainless type. If you use a similar wire, then add to the names "PM", "P" and "PN".

In addition, there are other products: KGN, KPG, KPGS, KPGSN, KPGU. If they are produced for use in a warm tropical climate, then add the designation "T". In this case, use GOST 15150-69.

When “” is added to the names, such wires are intended for terrain with a cold climate. In this case, the same GOST applies.

Flexibility classes

There are such categories of cable flexibility:

  1. Inside from 1 to 59 wires, and their cross section is from 0.03 to 1000 square meters. mm
  2. The diameter is 0.5-2000 square meters. mm The amount is approximately 7-91.
  3. In the diameter of the veins are from 0.33 to 0, 87 square meters. mm
  4. Diameter - 0.06-400 sq. mm
  5. The diameter is 0.03-625 square meters. mm
  6. The cable is considered the most flexible. Diameter - 0.06-0.4 sq. mm

Conditionally, the first category is nominal, from the second to the fourth - increased, and the last two - high.

Characteristic

Flexible copper multi-core cable in rubber insulation has special performance characteristics.

The product is resistant to oily substances, can withstand frost, does not spread fire and is insensitive to ozone. Due to the use of ethylene-propylene rubber together with butyl rubber, products are obtained with high strength indicators.

Copper cable

They are used to connect mobile equipment designed for 660 V and a frequency of about 50 Hz. Cables can be used in various climatic conditions. But the continuous temperature of the cores should not be more than 65 ° C.

Cables are suitable for climatic, ventilation, construction, welding equipment.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each type of cable of all considered has its own characteristics, pluses and minuses.

But overall, their benefits include the following:

  • increased flexibility;
  • low conductivity;
  • strength and reliability;
  • high switching ability.

Increased elasticity is achieved through the use of a special rubber insulating layer. In addition, the wires withstand the effects of acids, alkalis, oils. Moisture is not terrible either. With such insulation, the product can withstand elevated temperatures when a short circuit occurs. But keep in mind that direct sunlight is not suitable at all.

There are other disadvantages. First of all, this concerns poor performance in high frequency networks.

Stranded cable

Also of the minuses is the high price. In addition, due to the fact that the veins are rounded, the diameter on the outside is greater than that of products that have the shape of sectors.

Copper cables

The rubber-insulated copper cable has a twisted type core that can be tinned. Products such as KPSSN are additionally wrapped with a special film.

As for the rubber insulation, this is RTI-1, and it is made of rubber of the butadiene type, and sometimes natural material is also used.

Flexible cable

A multicore copper flexible cable 2x1.5 or any other size can have the corresponding digital and color marking. The core are polyester type yarns. Similar cables with copper conductors can be twisted without additional materials. The shell is made of special non-combustible rubber, as chloroprene is added.

Stranded copper flexible cable 5x4 and other sizes are used in water and on land, in various rooms with natural ventilation. But the main thing is that precipitation and ultraviolet rays are not affected. Increased humidity due to condensation is allowed.

Ship wires

There are special shipboard cables with rubber insulation. Their veins are shielded. In addition, they have armor in the form of a galvanized wire braid.

Similar products are used in control and telephone networks. They are suitable for installation inside and outside the building, but in any case, UV protection is required.

The wire has 2 twisted copper conductors. The braid is steel. It is necessarily primed. The product withstands 100% humidity.

Cable design

A striking example of a flexible multicore cable with a rubber sheath is KG. Inside, tin-lead coated copper wire is used. The veins are rounded. As a separation, an artificial special film is used, which covers twisted veins.

A product without such a film is allowed. But then the veins must be separated from the sheath. For insulation use special rubber. She is distinguished by a characteristic color. The zero core is usually blue. This color can be used for others, but not grounding - it is always greenish-yellow. The shell is made of rubber hose type.

Copper flexible cable

As for KGN, it also has a rubber shell that is resistant to oil. She does not spread fire. KPSSN has the same property. CNG has the same layer as KG, but it has an increased level of elasticity. This also applies to CNG.

In CNG, the casing is identical to CNG, but a rubber core of profiled type is present.

The KPGU layer is similar to the KPG, but the veins have increased flexibility, and between them there is a rubber compound filler.

ORS has twisted veins. Both the insulation and the outer shell are also rubber. PRSU has the same cable, but the shell is thicker.

In what conditions are used

KG cable is used in cases where the temperature is from -40 to 50 ° C. In this case, bends are allowed, but the radius should be at least 8 diameters.

CGN is used when there is a chance of contact with the product with disinfectant or aggressive components. Suitable for agriculture. Temperature from -30 to 50 ° C is allowed. By the way, CNG is used in the same conditions. KPSSN this also applies.

CNG is used at temperatures from -50 to 50 ° C, but bending with a radius of at least 5 diameters is allowed.

KPSS is suitable for shock and strong pressure, high loads. Operating temperature is -50 to 50 ° C. It allows bending, but the radius must be at least 5 core diameters.

KPGU allows bending with a radius of 10 diameters. Suitable temperature is from -50 to 50 ° C.

ORS is used for equipment with a voltage of approximately 380 V. The frequency is up to 200 Hz. Operating temperature - from -40 to 65 ° . The same applies to PRSU.
