Western thuja "smaragd" is a variety with a beautiful conical shape. The plant was bred in Denmark, has a relatively slow growth, reaching a height of 2.5 meters after 10 years. The annual growth of thuja can be about 10 cm up and 5 cm wide. The maximum height of adult plants is 6 meters.

The plant is a coniferous tree. The branches that make up the dense narrow-conical crown are distinguished by special tenderness, have an emerald green color and are located in a vertical plane. The needles of the plant are green, scaly structure. On the tree grow brown sparsely arranged cones of elongated ovoid shape, which reach 7 mm in length. Thuya "smaragd" has its own peculiarity. Unlike other varieties, the needles of which in the winter become brownish in color, in this plant the crown remains emerald green all year round.

The plant tolerates all types of soil well, however, to obtain a lush specimen, a moist, fertile soil consisting of peat, turf land, sand and humus will be required.
To plant a tree, you need a pit, the size of which depends on the volume of the root system. To create a hedge, the interval between seedlings up to 2 meters should be observed, when forming alleys between rows, there should be at least 8 meters, while the distance in the row between the trees is up to 4 meters.
Before thuja "smaragd" will be planted, it is necessary to pour rotted organics and wood ash, as well as "Nitroammofoski" into the pit. After planting, foliar treatment should be performed with the Epin tool.
Mulching is carried out using peat, sawdust, compost or wood chips. This measure will avoid overheating and drying out of tree roots in the summer and freezing in the winter.
Watering an adult plant with a high occurrence of groundwater is optional. However, after planting in the first month, weekly watering should be done by adding 10 liters of water for each seedling. In the dry period, thuja "smaragd" will require watering, which is carried out twice a week, while a single volume of water is doubled.
In dry weather, it is necessary to spray the crown of the tree. And to stimulate growth, they spray once a month with Zircon or Epin-Extra. For the prevention or eradication of diseases and pests, treatment with fungicides and insecticides will also be required.
