The novel "Oblomov" by Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov was written during the period of serfdom, the society was rather motley - landowners and peasants, nobles and nobles, nobles and commoners. Who did not have to take care of their daily bread, he could lie in bed until noon. So lucky was Oblomov Ilya Ilyich, a young man still, thirty-two years old. Oblomov’s portrait characteristic will not be very large: his face is pleasant, but his eyes are very calm, no sparks, no devils, this is thirty-two years. The whole body is soft, pampered, hands are white and puffy.

Having inherited an estate from his father and mother and more than three hundred serfs as an inheritance, Ilya Ilyich settled in St. Petersburg, in the very center, in a spacious apartment. I did not go to the estate, it was very far away, and I did not want to. The warden began to rule all affairs in a remote estate. At first, everything went smoothly, income from the estate more than covered all the vital needs of the young landowner. But then the headman began to send letters complaining of crop failure and other misfortunes. Money became less and less every year. It would be clear to anyone that the manager was stealing and stealing, and Oblomov believed nothing, only complained that drought was drying wheat on its fields. A brief description of Oblomov: trusting in half with indifference to his own life.

Ilya Ilyich Oblomov lived in Petersburg for eight years, without thinking about anything at all, slept and dined, reluctantly got up from the couch, dressed with the help of his elderly servant Zakhar, who over the years became the master as a whole. Oblomov’s characterization would not be complete without a description of the old servant. He was a grouchy, slightly thievish and extremely stubborn man. He loved his master, but at the same time did not miss the chance to pat his nerves. And since old Zakhar was also a pretty inventor, today, let’s say, he goes to the gate and tells everyone that his master doesn’t sleep for the third night, runs to one widow, and burns the other nights with cards, and how much he drinks incomprehensibly.

And the next day, at the same gate, he assures everyone that his master did not remember about women for three years at all, he is lying and sleeping, even if he sat in the cards, no. And what a man he is, he doesn’t even want to see the fault, not to drink! Such was Zahar. However, there was little harm from his fantasies, everyone knew the talker himself, and how much he had. Oblomov himself doesn’t even lead with an ear, all the same to him, that "to the widow at night", that "to lie and sleep." The second was just closer to the truth, Ilya Ilyich slept endlessly. He was completely healthy if mother laziness was not considered a disease.

And Oblomov’s characteristic is unflattering for him. He was a lethargic, inactive person, did not like unnecessary anxiety. Although before moving to Petersburg he led the life of an ordinary young man, not alien to simple joys. But gradually Oblomov became lazy, and lost his taste for movement, did not leave his house for years, his circle of friends was small. And he didn’t make his friends penniless. They will come, they are all slowing down, get up, they say, Ilya Ilyich, let's go there, but let's go here. And he, if he gets out of bed, will immediately lie back.

Oblomov was not interested in anything, but he had an open soul, and was ready to borrow new impressions from life, which is why Oblomov’s characteristic wins somewhat. He was sleepy, yes, but not drowsy. And once, looking at a tree outside the window, he even felt a shock, that's how the leaves live, blossom, and then fall off. And each leaf is a part of the life of a tree, each is needed. So I Oblomov, like a piece of paper, part of life, I need it means. So he felt good from the realization of his need, cried even with happiness. And just at that moment, Stoltz was in the room, the only person to whom Oblomov was always drawn.
This is surprising, since Stolz, a German by birth, was the exact opposite of Oblomov, had a business character, was engaged in environmental affairs, constantly traveled abroad on instructions from ministers, led a healthy lifestyle and slept nonsense, five to six hours a day. And here you are, Stolz, with such blatant restlessness, was the “light in the window" for Ilya Ilyich. However, all the attempts of Stolz to make Oblomov more active, to give him movement, safely crashed on the sofa of Ilya Ilyich, already squeezed, but still strong. And here is what else Oblomov’s characteristic can be supplemented with - he was unyielding.
And yet one day Stoltz pulled out his friend into the light of day and took him to visit the Ilyinsky, his old acquaintances. To listen to the divine singing of Olga Sergeevna Ilyinskaya, the daughter of the owner of the house. Oblomov did not want any social events at all, and even more so than singing at home. But still he listened to Olga’s singing and disappeared, fell in love. Then everything turned so that Olga fell in love with him. And again he began to invent something, and destroyed everything. Olga Sergeyevna knocked, knocked on the closed doors of Oblomov’s soul, and she left. After some time, she became the wife of Stolz.
But Oblomov, the difficult Ilya Ilyich, moved to the Vyborg Side and settled with a certain widow, who turned out to be a very sincere and affectionate woman. Ilya Ilyich and married her. He lived seven happy years and died overnight from a stroke, as the doctor had predicted.
