We grow climbing roses. Landing and care

It is hard to imagine a blooming garden without this beauty. And really, what could be a better decoration for the compound than climbing roses? Planting and caring for them is the topic of the article.

They bloom earlier than other roses, at the very beginning of spring, and turn into one big bouquet the place of planting, whether it is a cozy gazebo, a house porch, a neighbor's fence or homely outbuildings. Their purpose is to ennoble space. For this they are loved by flower growers, owners of private houses and summer cottages. And yet, of course, for the lush, simply luxurious flowering.

Climbing roses: planting and care

How and when to plant climbing roses? Planting and caring for them have some differences from the methods of growing other varieties of roses. The general requirement is the condition of the soil: it must be fertile, mixed type, not very heavy and not sandy. Loam is preferred, but without stagnant water. When planting, the roots of any variety are slightly shortened by secateurs, dipped in a liquid clay solution - so they are better protected from the harmful effects of new soil. You can try propagating roses by cuttings: in June-July, cut a lignified healthy stalk, plant under a glass jar so that three or four buds remain on the surface. Soon leaves will appear, but they are better to remove, they only prevent rooting.

And then - about the features of growing, which require climbing roses. Landing and caring for them is not so difficult. Firstly, they do not need a lot of space, a strip of land half a meter is enough to accommodate the bush, and the entire ground part goes along the supports, walls, fences. The bush can be formed in accordance with your wishes. If the owner's task is to decorate the arbor on the site, it is not just feasible, it gives great pleasure. After all, these flexible stems go where you lead them! In addition, their length can reach three to five meters. So it will not be difficult to completely wrap the arbor with pink branches, and then sit in the midst of this splendor and enjoy life.

climbing rose in winter

If you need to disguise any buildings on the site, for example, a barn, a toilet, an ugly wall or an uninteresting fence, a climbing rose comes to the rescue. In winter its stems remain the same hedge, you just need to remove dry leaves and buds, slightly shorten the branches. But in the middle zone of Russia, where winters are rather severe, it is customary to lower and wrap the rose. In the southern regions this is not practiced at all. Seasonal care in the spring comes down to the removal of dried out and frozen (at this time also frosts) branches, loosening and fertilizing the soil. In the spring, the rapid growth of new shoots begins from the root, and they allow you to constantly update the bush - remove old stems, leaving the healthiest of new shoots and directing them at your discretion. It is impossible to prevent bush thickening - this will be to the detriment of the development and flowering of this beauty.

The climbing roses afflict one: planting and care provide lush flowering, but only for a month. True, there are varieties with repeated flowering, which were bred through many years of selection experiments. Very popular among gardeners and designers is the Super Dorothy rose with deep pink dense tassels. It blooms later than other varieties, but flowering goes in waves and continues almost until the frost. There is a group of semi-climbing roses, which are also bred by crossing with remontant varieties and have a long flowering period - “Bonanza”, “Dortmund”, “Colette” and others. They have larger flowers, they are more resistant to disease.

rose sympathy
Of the varieties of domestic selection, the chic rose Sympathy is very popular, which is also characterized by abundant and long flowering (almost throughout the entire summer season), as well as large bright flowers. Unlike other varieties of climbing roses that do not differ in pronounced smell, Sympathy has a bright pink aroma.

We can’t ignore another problem: how to protect roses from pests. The real scourge for culture are aphids and powdery mildew. No matter how one wants to avoid this, roses will have to be sprayed with chemicals, and more than once. Aphid colonies literally humiliate the stems so that it is unpleasant to touch them. If you want to get by with harmless means of protection, you can recommend a soap solution: 200-300 grams of laundry soap to plan and dissolve in a bucket of hot water, cool and use for spraying.

Ask yourself, what would you like to do all your life in order to feel happy? Of course, growing roses!
