Truly long-awaited was the game "Mafia 2". Having become hostage to the popularity of her predecessor, she was doomed to success - one way or another. Despite all its ambiguity, it was warmly received by many. And they play it to this day, because "Mafia 2", the system requirements of which are very democratic, will run on almost any, even far from new computer.
Background. The success of the first "Mafia"
So what does the game "Mafia 2" owe its fame? In the early 2000s, the guys from the Czech studio Illusion Softworks created a sensation for the whole world by releasing the project Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. The game for its time was amazing with high-quality graphics, attention to details, elaborated plot, huge game world. Enumerating the advantages of the first "Mafia", you can still talk very, very much. But always any list of its advantages will be headed even not listed above. At about the same time as the Mafia, no less iconic GTA III was released, which became the hit and founder of the most popular series of games Grand Theft Auto. But even the presence of such a powerful competitor did not prevent the creation of the Czechs from taking root and falling in love with gamers around the world for many years. People excitedly lived the story of a simple London taxi driver Tommy Angelo, who, as a result of a combination of circumstances, became a mafia of the great clan Salieri. Chases and fights, robberies and skirmishes - all this took place on the streets of the huge City of Lost Skies, almost copied from Chicago at that time.
The same atmosphere
As mentioned above, the first part fell in love with the players for the amazing atmosphere of the United States since the Great Depression. All this was shown with historical accuracy and in great detail - a city flooded with skyscrapers and gangsters, disassembly of mafia clans, the "dry law", the hard life of ordinary people of that period. Everything, absolutely everything, delighted with its elaboration. Do not forget about the beautiful, best-executed models of cars of the 30s.
The second part of the game was also distinguished by its surroundings, relevant for the later, post-war period of the game. The system requirements of the game "Mafia 2", of course, increased since the publication of the first part, made it possible to improve the game in technical terms. Perhaps, due to the change in the duration of the action, the project lost a little in its charm, because much of what was in the first part could not be in the second. However, the game still thoroughly showed the life and work of honest and not very American people of the middle of the 20th century.
Rivalry with GTA
Due to the themes and similar game mechanics, the Mafia series was simply destined to compete with the famous Grand Theft Auto. And it began already with the release of the first “Mafia”, which was to compete with GTA III - not the first game in a competing series, but the first one released in 3D-action format. Both there and here - Italian mafiosi, however, the difference in time of action of years of commercials is 70. Among the two wonderful games it was difficult to identify the winner. However, the GTA series pulled ahead, because while the Mafia 2 was being forged, the best-selling GTA Vice City and San Andreas were released. The output of the second “Mafia”, although it took place, was a long time in doubt, and it happened much later than everyone expected.
"Mafia 2", the system requirements of which were much softer than that of GTA IV, which was released at the same time as the long-awaited long-awaited one, was generally well received by everyone, since it turned out to be comfortable to play on an average computer at that time. Having moved to the USA from his native Italy in the 1920s, Vito, as a child, made friends with Joe Barbaro, with whom fate had connected him for many years. Having matured, Vito and Joe for the sake of earning began to hunt with theft and robberies, as a result of which the main character was captured by the police and then, in order not to go to jail, went to the front. Recall that the Second World War was already underway.
Returning from the war, Vito, who by that time had grown up to the mafia boss of the middle arm, attracted Joe to the criminal trade again, but now in the form of work for influential people and on a slightly different scale. Together with his friend Vito will not only become a respected and wealthy gangster, but also reveal some of the secrets of his family ...
“Mafia 2” on the computer is a fascinating symbiosis of action and racing, providing the player with a free world, like in GTA (we’ll specify that the “Mafia” couldn’t boast of a completely free world).

As a result of the fact that it was created at the junction of two generations of game consoles and the development process was late, its developers had to change the engine about three times along the way, eventually dwelling on developing their own.
