What is the salt of Mora capable of

Walking the other day in the park, I saw my old friends. Having joined the company, involuntarily took part in their earlier discussion. The topic was not one of the most familiar - non-humanitarian profile. But I became interested and involuntarily listened, trying to delve into the conversation. Already very enthusiastic friends talked. They talked about some kind of curious chemical substance. I, as a person who was terribly far from science, thought that the speaker was mistaken, using an incomprehensible name - “salt of mora”. Maybe he just made a slip of the tongue, or I misheard myself. Apparently, it was a question of sea salt, and on this topic my girlfriend, who returned from a trip to Israel, recently enlightened me.

dead sea salt

There, she nicely rested on the shores of the Dead Sea, and now she has become a zealous activist using cosmetics based on marine minerals and salts. She also brought a large jar of sea food salt from the trip. She propagandized to me all the benefits of using just such a salt enriched with iodine and trace elements.

Inquiring, I asked again if I had in mind the salt of the Dead Sea. But it turned out the first time I heard correctly. The topic of conversation was not the sea. The salt of Mora was really mentioned. They explained to me that this is a chemical substance of inorganic origin, having the form of crystals of a pale blue-green color. I’m ready to bet, they didn’t expect me to remember this when I called the salt of mora “crystalline ammonium double sulfate-iron hydrate”. Therefore, it was explained that otherwise the substance is called a double sulfate salt of ammonium and iron oxide.

The short name is mora's salt (the formula FeSO 4 × (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 × 6H 2 O and the internationally recognized name “Mohr's salt” were spied by me on the Internet in the evening). The main components: iron, sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen. In micro-fractions, the presence of impurities (chlorine, manganese, copper, lead, and some others) is allowed.

The substance is capable of dissolving in water and in acids (to a greater extent). In the air, it is a stable compound. It is used in many industries. For example, in chemistry - to analyze the concentration of a substance in solutions (for potassium permanganate - to set the titer, with a volumetric determination of vanadium, chromium, ether and ethyl alcohol). Salt is also used in woodworking - its highly concentrated solution is used to impregnate wood to prevent decay.

During the current conversation, the topic of the use of Mohr's salt in pharmacology and medicine was raised. It can be used as a dietary supplement, as well as used to increase the number of blood cells, increasing the level of hemoglobin in the blood. They also use it to detect urobilin in the urine, a substance that indicates kidney problems. The usefulness of this salt is due to the significant content of iron oxide, which is easily absorbed by the human body.

It seemed funny that for the second time in one week, different people told me about the benefits of unusual salt. Apparently, this is a sign that you need to pay closer attention to your health and start eating not just table salt, but something more wholesome. Not Mora - only a doctor can prescribe this supplement, but at least I will switch to iodized if I can’t get an Israeli one. Or maybe I’ll even acquire the mineral salt of the Dead Sea, so that I can take baths with it and calm my nerves.
