Having bought a beautiful pot with an abundantly flowering bush of roses as a present for my girlfriend, I read on the label: "rose patio." What kind of patio? Scrolling through the Rosacea reference book, that's what I found.
Rose patio: history of occurrence
The epochal procession through the gardens and flowerbeds of the whole world began with roses of this group in the 80s of the 20th century. By their appearance, they should be grateful to the Irish breeder Patrick Dixon, who created a whole series of low-growing (from 30 to 55 cm), abundantly blooming medium-sized flowers (3-5 cm) of bushy varieties. Flowers they can be simple, medium and strong double. The wide variability of the color of roses is represented by the whole gamut inherent in the family of Rosaceae - from pure white to maroon, almost black. There are variegated varieties combining two cardinal colors, for example, white and red, burgundy and yellow.
At one time, Dixon proposed officially introducing a separate branch into the classification of varietal categories - the rose patio. The name of this group was not chosen by chance. Firstly, planted in garden pots, these roses are a wonderful decoration for small tiled patios. Secondly, the name of the group immortalized the memory of its creator - Pat Dixon. However, the International Center for Registration of Varieties refused Dixon the official registration of this category of roses, highlighting it as one of the subgroups of floribunda (abundantly flowering). And only after several consecutive low-growing, abundantly blooming varieties of the patio group won the prestigious Best Rose of the Year award from the British Royal National Rose Plantation, the patio rose was officially registered as an independent group.
Conditions of detention

Dutch patio roses that are widely sold in stores often do not take root in our city apartments. The fact is that these are flowers of garden maintenance, they need to be grown on the street. Indoor climate with its low humidity, lack of wind ventilation, morning or evening dew, the difference between day and night temperature, and the absence of rain is not suitable for these roses. After the purchase, they need to be planted as soon as possible on a flower bed or transplanted into a garden pot. If this is not possible, the rose needs to be transplanted from transport peat to normal soil (land for indoor plants sold in stores is suitable), the pot with the plant must be placed in a cool room, after pruning all the flowers and buds. Better yet, put the rose in a greenhouse - under a jar or plastic bag. In this state, it will be possible to save it until the moment of planting in the garden. Due to the high humidity created by the greenhouse, it will not be damaged by the spider mite, from which these roses often suffer in indoor conditions.
In the garden, roses of this group begin to bloom in June and bloom profusely until the frost. Of course, the conditions best suited to these colors are conditions no colder than a temperate climate, where winter temperatures do not drop below -20-25 ° C. The patio rose is frost-resistant, and in the conditions of mild winters and heavy snowfall it can not even be covered. Where winters are harsh, with little snow (areas with a sharply continental climate) these roses, however, like all others, must be stored in the basement with
at least 12-15 ° C.
Rose patio mix and hit: what's the difference?
I did not find specific information about what is meant by the words “hit” and “mix”. From my own experience, I can assume that the position “rose patio hit” represents one of the varieties most popular in industrial breeding. Usually the specific name of the variety is not indicated with this designation. And the “rose patio mix” is just a trademark. In it, the word "mix" implies that the coloring of a particular bush is not defined and can be any. Often there are flowers on sale labeled “rose patio hit mix”: it is understood that the existing variety belongs to industrial selection and the color of this plant is not specifically defined.
