Polyurethane columns for all tastes

The chemical industry has given builders and designers more than a dozen different materials. Synthetic hetero-chain polymer, polyurethane, has also been widely used. In the interior of modern houses and apartments, columns made of polyurethane are increasingly replacing similar products from other materials.

Structure

The architectural column itself consists of three parts:

  • The capital is the upper part. It is installed between the column and the ceiling. Initially, this function was performed by pieces of wood or thick bark. Over time, the capital has become not only part of the design, but also its decoration. By design, it can be of a classic style, and unique authoring work to order. In the modern design of the column, the capital may be absent.
  • The trunk is the body of the column. Diameter, height may be different. There are columns smooth and with flutes. So called vertical grooves. Their number, depth and width may vary.

  • The base is the bottom, or base. Initially, its role was played by stone slabs or planks of wood, not allowing the column to sink into the ground. The base was decorated, decorated with ornaments, it carried the main load. Decorative columns made of polyurethane do not need such an element. Light weight allows you to install them on any coating without the bottom.

The word column itself, translated from Latin, is a column, as a rule, of a cylindrical shape. But they could be given a complex configuration: a square, a rectangle, a polyhedron.

Kinds

The appearance of the columns at first was due to the need to support the roof and ceiling of the building. In ancient Egypt, with its hot climate, this design helped improve ventilation. Over time, they began to be used as a decorative element.

There are several types of classic columns:

  • Doric - of a monumental appearance, had no foundation, a capital without decorations;
  • Ionic - was made in an elegant and sophisticated form, all parts of the structure were decorated;
  • Corinthian - similar in execution and ionic, but differs in the bell-shaped form of the capital;
  • Tuscan - generally similar to Doric, only of lighter performance: base and pillar without grooves (flutes);
  • composite - features of the Corinthian and Ionic columns were visible in it, the capitals were richly decorated with ornaments, figures of birds and animals.

Use in the interior

Where the column is not required as a supporting structure, polyurethane columns are installed. Although it is possible even to make such structures solid and reliable. To do this, pour concrete into a hollow form or insert metal amplifiers.

This technique justifies itself well when designing the appearance of a country house. “Combined” polyurethane columns will perform two functions at once: decoration and roof support. These buildings give the interior greatness.

Indoors, decorative columns made of polyurethane are most often used for zoning large rooms. There are a lot of options for use: they help visually “raise” the ceilings, adjust the proportions of the room, serve as the basis for the shelf, act as lockers or mask the supporting structures, pipes, wires.

Products have a number of undeniable advantages:
