So what could be causing?
Very tight bulb planting
Often on our sites daffodils grow in one place for many years. It is not right. After 4-5 years, the root system of the flower grows strongly and plaits neighboring bulbs. This leads to the fact that the latter do not have enough space, they do not receive enough moisture, oxygen and nutrients. Such bulbs by themselves begin to grow smaller, cease to grow and, accordingly, bloom.
To avoid this, transplant daffodils every 3-4 years. And in case you have beautiful rare varieties, gardeners recommend replanting flowers once a year. It is right to do this when the tips of the leaves begin to turn yellow, and the bush lies on the ground. As a rule, this is the beginning of August. If you did not have time to dig up the bushes and remembered about this in September, it is better to leave them in place: they have already launched new roots that you can damage.
Acidic soil
Acidic soils can also be the reason why the daffodil does not bloom. This happens often if your garden is located near a coniferous forest. This can be corrected by deoxidizing the soil.
To do this, you need to prepare a special mixture containing lime, dolomite flour or chalk. Tell sellers in specialized stores about your problem, and they will help you find the right products. Another option may be a general transplant of plants into a specially prepared soil.
Little light
Not enough light is one of the common reasons why a daffodil does not bloom. See where your flowers are planted. If in the shade of thick trees or on the north side of the house, feel free to transplant the bushes closer to the sun. This flower loves to take sun baths in the morning.
Stagnant or insufficient watering
This is the case that adversely affects most garden flowers. When water stagnates, the root system rots. If the area is flooding, drain.
A lack of moisture can lead to the fact that the bulb does not survive the winter, because it has not grown stronger. It is especially important to water the plant after a flowering period - at this time, the greenery is gaining strength, which it will transmit to the bulbs.
