Snow-white Datura: seed cultivation

When the street is still cold and cold, inveterate gardeners are already stocking up with plant seeds, planning what and where this year will grow in the garden. Most people prefer annuals, which allow each time to create a new type of flower garden, update it and saturate with bright colors, not the least among these plants is datura. The cultivation of this overseas guest from the seeds does not cause any particular difficulties, which is why the plant has taken root in our gardens.

datura seed cultivation
Originally from Datura from Central America and was introduced to Europe relatively recently, but immediately gained popularity. The flower is also called a dope (due to its hallucinogenic properties). Growing datura does not imply any special knowledge. Seeds are sown at the beginning of March in ordinary garden soil mixed with sand and humus. Then they are sprinkled with a layer of earth 5 mm thick. The earthball must always be wet. A dark place and a temperature of + 20 Β° C - these are the conditions that the seeds will "appreciate".

Datura is notable for its good germination, since planting material survives for decades, but it still needs some care. After the emergence of seedlings, boxes with seedlings are transferred to a cool, but well-lit place. As soon as the seedlings are a little older, you can begin to pick. Flower containers are needed not too small, because the plant has a massive root system and is rapidly growing in size.

In open ground, a flower is planted only when the soil warms up well enough and there will be no frost at night (only under these conditions a datura will be accepted). Growing from seedlings in a seedling way allows you to get a strong and healthy plant that will delight you with abundant flowering from mid-summer to the coldest weather. Flowers need to be planted a meter apart, for the bushes grow large and sprawling. A calm and sunny place is what datura loves.

Growing from seeds allows you to annually update your flower garden and admire the luxurious white and fragrant flowers. True, you can enjoy the enchanting and gentle smell of flowers only late in the evening, at night or early in the morning, during the day they either dry out or bloom, but the smell is not the same. This plant is very unpretentious, although it responds very well to top dressing. It grows calmly on any land, sunlight and regular watering are all that datura requires.

Growing from seeds is the main way to propagate this crop, although in some cases they resort to cuttings. To do this, the lateral or apical stems are cut off and planted directly in the ground.

Date has been grown by people for more than one millennium. Initially, it was used completely not as a decor for a flower garden (after all, this culture has healing properties). Therefore, the flower was actively used (and is now used) in traditional medicine. Shamans resorted to his help, using him in magical and religious rites, so that the datura preserves many unknown puzzles and secrets. And we can decorate our garden plots with this magical plant, admire its beauty and inhale the stupefying aroma.
