Science fiction is a genre of art that arose at the beginning of the 20th century, when the world began to develop rapidly, and which remains popular to this day. This genre is especially popular in the field of literature - such outstanding authors as the Strugatsky brothers, Isaac Asimov, Herbert Wells and other writers are known to all.
One of the most famous Russian science fiction writers is Yevgeny Yakovlevich Gulyakovsky, who wrote several cycles, many solo novels, as well as a number of short stories, short stories and film scripts.
Biography
Evgeny Gulyakovsky was born on August 29, 1934 in the city of Kazan, the RSFR. Little is known about his childhood - most likely, it passed the same way as most of his peers.
In 1958, the future writer received his first of two higher educations, graduating from Kazan State University. Then he studied at the University of Chisinau (now Moldavian State) at the Faculty of Geology.
For a long time, Evgeny Gulyakovsky worked as a geologist. This stage in his life had a significant impact on the early work of the writer: the first works were adventure stories about geologists. One of his early works is the story "The Stolen Pledge," written in 1962.
If all this time, creativity was only a hobby, then in 1968, Evgeny Yakovlevich Gulyakovsky, after graduating from higher script courses, begins a professional writing career, which he devotes all his time to.
Creation
The most famous work of Yevgeny Gulyakovsky, which is most popular among readers and critics alike, is the novel "Season of the Fogs", which belongs to the cycle of the same name and was first published in 1979. In 1984, the sequel “Long Sunrise on Anne” was released. The cycle was completed in 2006 with the book "Chronicles of Inspector Rotanov." The protagonist of extraterrestrial settlements Igor Rotanov, who travels the planets and investigates the mysterious secrets of the Universe, is the protagonist of this trilogy.
The Mist Season is not the only cycle written by Evgeny Gulyakovsky. His work also includes the series “Alien Planet”, “Labyrinth of Worlds” and “Prometheus”. The first two cycles consist of two books. Prometheus is the most numerous - it includes four novels.
Despite the fact that “Alien Planet” is presented as a combined cycle, the events of the first and second books are practically unrelated, except for small references in the form of character recollections. In the center of the plot of the first novel, which is also called "Alien Planet", there is a spaceship named Igor Krainev. The protagonist of the second book of the cycle, entitled “Alien Spaces”, is a student Stepan Gravov.
The place of events of the books of the “Labyrinth of Worlds” series - the distant planet Zidra, on which strange inexplicable events take place - people disappear without a trace. Oleg Egorov, an agent of the foreign security service, is tasked with going to Zidra to solve this mystery, but dies under mysterious circumstances. After several decades, Yuri Losev goes to Zidra to take a trip through the Labyrinth of Worlds, attractive and dangerous.
The cycle "Prometheus" also brought the writer considerable fame. Gulyakovsky’s novel “The Sword of Prometheus” is especially popular. The protagonist of the cycle is a navigator named Gleb Tanaev, who faces a difficult task - to save humanity, which, being weakened by constant wars and environmental disasters, is unable to provide proper resistance to alien invaders. In order to fulfill his mission, Gleb Tanaev will have to sacrifice many things, find the gate to another world and get the legendary Sword of Prometheus.
Awards and prizes
In 1998, Evgeny Gulyakovsky was awarded the Aelita Prize for his contribution to Russian science fiction. In 2004, the writer became a laureate of two more prizes - “Moonlight Rainbow” and the literary prize named after Efremov.
Criticism and reader reviews
Gulyakovsky’s work is somewhat controversial.
Most readers characterize the books of Yevgeny Gulyakovsky as an ideal of science fiction and a standard for comparison with other works of this genre. An interesting, exciting plot, a pleasant style of storytelling, as well as philosophical reasoning and raising eternal themes about good and evil are noted.
But even some long-time fans of the author find some individual works unsuccessful: the lack of logic in some scenes and the unworked small details. However, the fact that Gulyakovsky’s first novel was released about 50 years ago and is still popular, says a lot. Even those who have never been fans of science fiction cannot deny the writer’s talent and his contribution to Russian literature.
