Modern world. A world in which there is still a place for abominable phenomena, one of which is discrimination. This despite the fact that technological progress is already beyond reason, and scientific discoveries are turning our minds around. It would seem, what more could you want, because society is developing steadily. However, for some reason, a significant proportion of people still do not want to recognize the rights of those who are somehow different from them.
What is the meaning of the word discrimination? In different sources you can find a variety of definitions. However, if we donβt go into details and speak in general terms, then discrimination is a moral or physical infringement of someoneβs rights related to the presence of a certain distinctive feature in a group of persons.
If you give an example, then immediately comes to mind Russian law prohibiting the so-called propaganda of homosexuality. To answer the question of what it is, politicians either find it difficult or begin to refer to fragile children's minds. However, in this case there is banal discrimination, the main purpose of which is to distract the thoughts of a simple layman from the real problems existing in the country: economic, political and social.
However, it should be noted that the examples described above are characteristic mainly of Russian society. In the countries of Europe and America, a person belonging to a sexual minority has not surprised anyone for a long time. In addition, he has equal rights with everyone, and in some countries even the right to marry (Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, and many others).
Another area in which discrimination is manifested is racism, that is, infringement of the rights of a group of persons on racial as well as national grounds. Racism and chauvinism in 1939 became one of the main reasons for the start of a destructive war. The weak minds of today, having forgotten, apparently, what were the consequences of the Great Patriotic War, cultivate and disseminate the ideas of neo-Nazism. Not knowing where to direct their forces, young people (in 95% of cases - these are young people) do not direct them to creation, but to destruction and hatred.
Another example of infringement of one's rights is gender discrimination, which is especially evident in the world of work. This type of intolerance is characterized by the following: when considering someone's candidacy as a potential employee, the employer judges not by his individual qualities, but by the qualities inherent in a particular social group (in this case, men or women). Here we can mention another trend. For example, a woman who works as a driver, or a man who has found his calling in the fashion world, many people treat, if not with contempt, then certainly with a strong misunderstanding and disapproval.
Discrimination is something to fight against, no matter in what sphere of life it appears. Lack of tolerance only harms society: developing materially, it forgets spirituality and tolerance. And this state of affairs, ultimately, usually leads either to war, or, at best, to revolution. Intolerance always leads to the degradation of society and inhibits its development.
