Modern manufacturers of building materials strive to provide their customers with all the necessary goods. The Knauf company (Germany) also belongs to such organizations. This is a universal manufacturer that produces materials of various composition and purpose. One of the most popular products of the company is waterproofing Knauf Flehendicht.
Characteristic and types
Waterproofing Knauf Flehendicht is a polymer in the form of an aqueous dispersion based on synthetic latex. As additives, various inert aggregates are included. It has a blue color. Solvent free. After contact with the surface, the waterproofing mixtures form a waterproof elastic film.
The composition is applied with a layer thickness of 1.1 mm, which after drying has a thickness of 0.8 mm. Usually use multiple layers. Moreover, the subsequent layer is applied 3 hours after the previous one (at a temperature of 20 degrees and air humidity of 50%). It is allowed to lay the tiles after 12 hours after the waterproofing “Knauf Flehendicht” was applied.
Consumption per 1 m2 is 700-1000 grams. This applies to materials with a smooth surface. For coatings having a more porous structure, the value increases to 900-1400 g / m 2 . Accordingly, 350-700 g / m 2 will be required per layer of material (depending on the type of base). With this in mind, a package weighing 5 kg will be sufficient for waterproofing 3.5-5.5 m 2 of the surface. The dried material withstands temperatures from minus 20 to plus 80 degrees.
Waterproofing "Knauf Flehendicht" can be of two types:
- Acrylic dispersion from Knauf Flehendicht. The price for a package weighing 5 kg is 1160 rubles.
- Mastic rubber-bitumen. Cost - 1950 rubles per 5 kg.
Material is stored for 18 months in tightly closed packaging.
Application area
Knauf waterproofing mixes can be used as waterproofing:
- Premises with high humidity and dampness. For example, a bathroom.
- Moisture resistant surfaces. We are talking about those based on gypsum.
- Hygroscopic mineral substrates: cement or lime based plasters. Concrete is also included in this category.
- As a waterproofing layer for ceramic tiles or natural stone, including for laying a warm floor.
Do not use the material in places where there is constantly a load arising under the pressure of water. This refers to containers with liquid, pools, etc. Waterproofing "Knauf" can be applied to any type of surface:
- Flooring in wet areas.
- Plaster bases.
- Roofs, balconies, attics.
- In the pools and showers under the tiles.
- On the slopes.
- Internal and external surfaces.
Features of acrylic waterproofing
Water-based acrylic dispersion "Knauf" is used for:
- Waterproofing of the bases, which strongly absorb water.
- In humid rooms to separate the filtered liquid.
- On the surfaces of mineral bases.
- On wooden materials.
It is used in the temperature range of 5-25 degrees. At the same time, they cannot process the bases on which moisture constantly gets.
Rubber-bitumen mastic
This material has the following properties:
- The product does not contain solvents and is completely safe for people.
- It has good adhesion.
- It can be applied to metal surfaces, even those subject to corrosion.
Rubber-bitumen mastic is used in cases where:
- It is necessary to waterproof the surface before laying the tiles, including in pools.
- Waterproofing of roofs, balconies, terraces is done.
- Protect the underbody or other metal structures from corrosion.
Using Knauf Waterproofing
Waterproofing Knauf Flehendicht is applied only to previously prepared surfaces. To do this, the base is cleaned of dirt, dust, oil stains or paint. If necessary, all cracks are puttied, irregularities are smoothed out. After that, the surface is primed and dried.
The waterproofing material is applied in two layers (if necessary more is allowed, for example, on porous substrates) with a brush or roller. The layer should be thin and uniform and not go beyond the boundaries specified by the manufacturer (not more than 1.1 mm). Material consumption does not increase. Waterproofing is applied to the surface from the side on which moisture is exposed.
In the corners where the walls are connected with the floor or ceiling, as well as with each other, an insulating tape is laid on a still wet layer of waterproofing. The mixture that has come through its cells is leveled. When using a self-adhesive tape, it is laid before applying the second layer to an already dried surface. Existing pipes, bends are insulated with sealing cuffs. Used waterproofing "Knauf Flehendicht" at a temperature of 5 to 25 degrees. Cured material can only be removed mechanically. Therefore, all tools are washed immediately after work.
