As soon as warm days come, summer residents immediately begin to gather on their plots. There comes a time of worries. In this bustle you can feel the charm of awakening nature, breathe in the clean air, which is devoid of burning and urban smog. We dedicate a whole week to work, and trips to the cottage should also be fun.
Outings are usually accompanied by traditional barbecue. Why not build a barbecue on a plot of brick?
Seat selection
The appearance of the building and its size may depend on the place where it will be located. The platform should be level. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the wind rose so that the smoke does not interfere with the neighbors and does not fall into the recreation area, and also does not strangle the cook. The site should be close to the house, because you can provide it with light and water, and you don’t have to carry dishes and products far.
Preparation of materials
Before folding the stationary brazier, you must prepare certain materials, among them should be highlighted:
- cement;
- reinforcing bars;
- metal corners;
- slaked lime;
- wire;
- heat resistant brick.
The rods can be replaced with reinforcing mesh. But the wire will be needed to fix the brickwork. In the place where the brick will not be heated, heat-resistant expensive products can be replaced with ordinary red ones. To form a roasting pan, you will need a metal tray. Care should also be taken for the presence of a grill. Do not forget about the tiles that you will use as countertops.
Foundation work
A brazier made of bricks will weigh quite a lot, so it will require a foundation device. The opinion that it is good enough to compact the soil and fill it with crushed stone by laying with paving slabs is erroneous. Any movement of the soil in this case can cause the destruction of the structure. The time, materials and forces spent will be a pity, therefore it is necessary to fill in a reliable foundation.
The functional foundation will have dimensions of 120 x 120 cm. The site prepared for construction must be marked out with twine and pegs. Next, a pit of the indicated sizes is dug, which needs to be deepened by 25 cm. The formwork is installed inside, and then the mortar is filled. It is prepared on the basis of three parts of sand per one part of cement.
The stationary brazier should be strong, which largely depends on the reliability of the foundation, which must be reinforced. To do this, you can use a reinforcing mesh or reinforcing bars. If you choose the first option, then laying the material should be done twice. First, the mortar is poured by a third of the height of the base, then the mesh layer is located, and then another third is poured.
The next layer will again be the grid, after which the base is poured to full size. If inside it is possible to place the rods, they are laid after pouring 1/2 of the base. The rods should be evenly laid out, their length should be 100 cm. After that, the entire remaining volume is filled. In order for rainwater to flow freely from the walls of the structure, a platform with a certain slope of 1 cm can be made. The foundation for a stationary brazier is left to solidify the solution for 2 weeks.
First row
If you want to do the work neatly and quickly, you must try on. A number of bricks are laid on the finished foundation for this, you do not need to use the solution. Such preparation will allow the use of whole blocks and their halves. If the pallet and grate have been prepared well in advance, their dimensions must be taken into account. The masonry line is bypassed and fixed. These works will provide an opportunity for orientation.
A stationary brazier is usually laid out from a brick, which is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs moisture well. If it is not prepared, it will absorb water from the solution. The construction will turn out to be fragile. In order to avoid this, a brick is placed in water per day. Before starting work, the products must be wet inside and dried outside.
The finished solution is prepared at the rate of 3 parts of sand, 1 part of cement and a quarter of slaked lime. The mixture in consistency should resemble thick sour cream. Next, the brick is laid on the mortar in the intended order. Between the products there is a space that is filled with masonry. In order to melt the blocks in the solution, they are knocked on top with a hammer or a trowel handle.
Work on the base
The stationary barbecue for a summer residence in this example will have a base. Each subsequent row is shifted relative to the previous half brick. It is necessary to start work from the corner, after which you can begin to fill the side walls. Planes must be checked with a building level and a plumb line. This is done every three rows.
The masonry is reinforced with wire corners. If you do not plan to trim the brazier additionally, you can use a piece of a garden hose to give the seams a neat appearance.
Work on the roasting pan and grate supports
The stationary country brazier will have a brazier. For the base under it between the opposite walls are reinforcing bars or metal corners. The base of the furnace is laid out on them. In this case, the metal tray will play this function. The main condition is that the furnace is easy to clean. In this area, gaps in the masonry are left unfilled with the solution. This will provide air. Without its influx, the combustion process will be impossible.
The grill is mounted on metal rods that are mounted on the wall. You can use the ledges of the brickwork for these purposes. They are formed if the bricks are placed across the wall. They should protrude inside the frypot.
Construction
The stationary barbecue grill can also be made of bricks. For this, a pit is prepared with a depth of 60 cm. Its dimensions should be equal to 80 x 160 cm. 10 cm of sand is poured onto the bottom. Given the dimensions of the pit, you must build the formwork and reinforce it. The net folds in half. Next, pour the concrete mixture. As soon as everything dries, it is possible to carry out waterproofing by folding the film in 6 layers. Such a surface is ready for masonry bricks.
When you will complete the 6th row, make an overlap of two rows of bricks, then you can continue laying with three rows in height. The last three rows will be a place for grilling kebabs. If you cover the fire with a metal grill from above, then you can turn the grill into a barbecue. It is important to take care of small gaps that will ensure air flow. To improve traction, you can install a pipe. After completion of all work, the walls are plastered outside.
Styling barbecue with stove
A stationary barbecue with a stove for a cauldron should also have a foundation. After laying and drying, the base is waterproofed with a building roof or two layers of roofing material. Each layer is glued with mastic or hot resin. The edges should be placed on the side surfaces of 10 cm. Asbestos or felt is laid on the waterproofing. Two rows should be laid out in continuous masonry, from the third should proceed to the formation of a place under the furnace.
Excess solution protruding from the seams must be removed in a timely manner. The next part of the work is the installation of the blower door. Finished products can be purchased at a hardware store. You can weld a frame and a door of metal yourself. But the metal will increase in size when exposed to temperatures. In order to avoid problems, a gap must be made between the structure and the brick. It is filled with asbestos lace. When laying, places should be provided for hot air to enter the frypot. A height of a couple of bricks will be enough.
The arched bridge will play the function of a decorative element that distributes the load from the top. This node also increases the strength of the barbecue. The jumper is made in the form of a brick row laid in an arc. All bricks must have a wedge-shaped shape. You can purchase finished products or trim them yourself.
Making brazier from metal
A stationary barbecue made of metal usually takes up less space than its brick counterpart. The dimensions of this design can be selected individually. At the first stage, it is necessary to mark the boundaries of the bottom and walls of the product. The sheet is cut along the lines, and the perforations in it are made by a drill.
On the upper edges of the long walls, chamfers must be cut. Parts are interconnected by welding. The legs should be pointed from the bottom, the angle is cut off by the grinder. The racks should be welded to the box.
Barbecue under a canopy
A stationary barbecue with a canopy will allow you to continue cooking, even if the weather is bad. If you take into account the fire safety rules, the open fire structure should be 6 m away from the house. When considering the comfort component, it is important to take into account that the canopy is built in a place where you can quickly and easily deliver water, food and utensils.
Even a compact canopy requires foundation. To create it from 4 sides, it is necessary to prepare the pits. Their cavities are laid out in a half brick, reinforcement and installation of supports are carried out. Pillars are poured with concrete mortar. The foundation is poured using formwork. It is subsequently removed.
A metal or asbestos pipe is installed on the crushed stone pillow, then concrete is poured. The design should dry well, it will take about 2 weeks. Next, you can engage in the formation of the frame, for example, of wood, metal or brick. At the next stage, the rails are fastened to the upper part of the racks, which will become the basis for the rafters. Boards are fixed to the crossbars, the distance between which should be no more than a meter. The rafters are sheathed with a crate, where the selected roofing material is laid.
