How to install a warm floor in a wooden house

Economical heating and minimizing heat loss - these are the two main headaches of residents of cottages and private houses in the winter. So it was before, when the underfloor heating in a wooden house was created using carpet, expanded polystyrene, warm linoleum and mineral wool. Although these materials contributed to the preservation of the required temperature regime, they had a number of disadvantages. But progress does not stand still, and now residents of private homes are increasingly resorting to the use of technology "warm floor".

underfloor heating in a wooden house

Warm floor in a wooden house is quite simple to install. Installation can be carried out directly on the rough floor or on the logs. Connecting a warm floor will be absolutely safe for wood, which allows you to minimize the risk of accidental fire. Today, there are 2 types of “warm floor”: with a modular type system and with a rack type system. Let's take a closer look at these systems to find out which warm floor is best used in a wooden house.

Both types of systems have a water principle of operation, based on heating and circulation of water through pipes, which are the main components of the structure. The modular system uses module elements made of chipboard and having a thickness of 22 mm. Chipboard sheets contain channel pipes and plates through which water circulates. In the rack system, the principle is almost the same, only plates and tubes are installed between the strips of chipboard sheets, the thickness of which is about 28 mm. The entire system has a rigid fixation, which allows the plates and tubes to withstand the permissible vibration and remain in a fixed position.

what a warm floor

How to mount a warm floor in a wooden house? Both systems have the same installation principle. First you need to get rid of the old flooring and the rough layer. Further along the entire perimeter of the room, a support is nailed, which usually serves as a wooden beam of solid thickness. Logs are installed in increments of about 0.6 meters, and a “warm floor” is installed. During installation, a chipboard board will be used as a rough floor, on which plates and tubes are fixed. In order for the chipboard to fit snugly to the base, it is necessary to put a plastic layer between them, which will play a kind of “pillow”.

After completion of installation work, a layer of laminate is spread or a parquet board is laid. It is also possible to lay out a layer of ceramic tile, but then it will be necessary to build a gypsum fiber slab, which will act as a protective shield and protect the coating from deformation heating, evenly distribute the load and the generated heat over the entire floor surface.

connection of a warm floor

Of course, a warm floor in a wooden house is not cheap, but it’s better to pay once, and your floor will always be warm at any time you need. As for which of the two underfloor heating systems to choose, from the point of view of safety and thermal performance, they are almost equal.

With the “warm floor” system, only you, and not some natural factors, will adjust the weather in the house.
