The tongue-and-groove plate, the technical characteristics of which will be presented below, is intended for the arrangement of interior partitions.
Comparison with other materials
These products appeared in order to reduce the complexity of the work and the cost of laying partitions. These statements are based on specific data. So, if you use one described product, the length of which is 66.7 cm and the height is 50 cm, then it can replace 14 one and a half silicate products, the same plate replaces 20 single red bricks (250 x 120 x 65 mm). If we make a comparison with a silicate tongue-and-groove product, then these indicators will be somewhat more modest: 5 and 7 bricks, respectively, however, in this case, it is advisable to use plates to accelerate and lower the cost of work.
Purpose of tongue-and-groove plates
Partition walls made of tongue-and-groove plates are designed for installation in residential and public buildings, where the rooms have a ceiling whose height does not exceed 4.2 m. Due to the fact that the tongue-and-groove plate, the technical characteristics of which you should know before using it, has a significant lateral area and a small width, the last of which varies between 8-10 cm, on the side faces to increase the stability qualities of the masonry, the products are equipped with a locking joint of the “groove-comb” type. This design solution allows you to simultaneously increase the evenness of the product. The plate is precisely mounted on a longitudinal seam and is firmly connected to a nearby one.
Main features of gypsum tongue-and-groove plates
Gypsum tongue-and-groove plates, the technical characteristics of which are presented below, are made using injection technology. At the heart of the product is gypsum, which is produced under the brands G-4 or G-5. Building gypsum acts as an environmentally friendly material that perfectly passes air. This suggests that the partitions on the basis of the described products comply with all sanitary and hygienic rules. In order to increase operational and strength properties, plasticizing compounds are added to gypsum.
Varieties of tongue-and-groove plates in terms of moisture resistance
A tongue-and-groove plate, the technical characteristics of which are interesting to those who plan to engage in the construction of partitions, can be moisture resistant and ordinary. Each of these products is characterized by its ability to absorb water. In order to prevent moisture absorption, Portland cement and granulated blast furnace slag are added to its composition . And for products with low water absorption to differ from ordinary ones, a green pigment is added to their ingredients.
A tongue-and-groove plate, the technical characteristics of which correspond to a product with normal water absorption, can be used in buildings where the rooms differ in normal and low humidity. As for moisture-resistant boards, which are known as water-repellent, they can be used in buildings whose rooms are characterized by high humidity, and it is recommended to use SNiP II-3-79.
Main characteristics
Tongue-and-groove slabs, technical characteristics, photos of which are presented in the article, must be studied before you begin to use them when carrying out installation of partitions. So, a conventional gypsum board has a density of 1350 kg / m³. In moisture resistant this parameter is equal to the indicator of 1100 kg / m³. The water absorption of a conventional gypsum board is 26-32 percent. But for moisture resistant this indicator is reduced to 5 percent. If you decide to purchase a conventional gypsum-based plate, then you must be guided by the marking M-35, while a moisture-resistant gypsum board is indicated by the manufacturer with the marking M-50. Be sure to consider this when choosing.
Tongue-and-groove plates, the technical characteristics of which each master is interested in before starting work with them, have certain dimensions. So, a conventional gypsum plate for arranging partitions has dimensions equal to 667 x 500 x 80 mm, which is also true for one that has the qualities of increased moisture resistance.
The indicator of heat conservation is also important. If we are talking about a slab whose thickness is 80 millimeters, then such a product can be considered equivalent to a concrete wall, the last of which has a thickness equal to 400 millimeters. When arranging partitions and choosing material for them, consumers, as a rule, pay attention to the noise insulation coefficient. For gypsum boards, this parameter can vary from 34 to 40 decibels, which is very attractive for the material used for the installation of interior partitions.
Fire resistance parameters of plates
A tongue-and-groove plate, technical characteristics, the fire resistance of which must be studied before the acquisition, has impressive qualities in terms of safety with direct exposure to flame. So, if a fire, the temperature of which is +1100 degrees Celsius, acts on the stove , the product will endure such loads for three hours. In this case, the bearing capacity will not be lost. In order to reduce the mass of masonry, you can install a hollow gypsum product, the size of which is standard and equal to 667 x 500 x 80 mm. Their weight is almost 25 percent less compared to the plates, which are called full-bodied. So, a tongue-and-groove plate, technical characteristics, the weight of which is important to know before installation, has a mass of 22-24 kg, which is true for a hollow product. While a full-bodied weighs in the range of 30-32 kg.
Among other things, the plates can be distinguished by the parameters of the crest and groove, which have a different shape. These parts of the product may be trapezoidal or rectangular. But no matter what form you choose the castle connection, it will not affect the strength and quality characteristics of the partitions.
The main features of silicate tongue-and-groove plates
Tongue-and-groove plates, the technical characteristics of which may be different, if we are talking about a different composition, in some cases have more impressive strength characteristics. So, the basis of silicate slabs is water, quartz sand, as well as quicklime lump. After all the ingredients are mixed, the composition goes through a pressing stage and enters the autoclave chamber. In it, the future slab undergoes the influence of significant temperatures and pressures, which makes it possible to obtain lime-sand conglomerate, which is characterized by increased strength.
Silicate slabs do not have such an impressive indicator of water absorption. This indicates that such products cannot be used in buildings whose rooms are characterized by high levels of humidity. These plates are actively used for the construction of self-supporting structures of partitions. The weight of such a silicate board is 15.6 kilograms, while the density is equivalent to 1870 kg / m 3 . If we compare with gypsum, then the latter has a much lower density and is equal to 1570 kg / m 3 , this positively affects the quality of heat saving and sound absorption, which is very appreciated by consumers, preferring these materials.
Characteristics of silicate tongue-and-groove products
Tongue-and-groove plates, technical characteristics, sound insulation of which are now known to you, are very common today. If we talk about the silicate variety of such products, then it has its own characteristics. So, the plates have a size equal to 500 x 250 x 70 mm, and they are produced under the brand name M-150. Their water absorption rate is 13.6 percent, but the density is 1870 kg / m 3 .
What you need to know about silicate boards before starting work?
If we compare silicate plates with gypsum in terms of fire resistance, the first ones cope slightly with the effects of fire. Their positive feature is that during operation they will not emit toxic gases. In addition, they do not conduct electricity. The basis of the fastening of the silicate plate is also a tongue-and-groove lock, the distinguishing feature of which is the ability to suppress sound.
