The curbstone has found wide application in road construction, arrangement and refinement of sidewalks, lawns, various sites, car parks, etc. Notable for its durability and strength, having a relatively low cost, it is able to fit into almost any design.
In addition to aesthetic purposes, a curbstone, the size of which depends on the area of its application, can serve as a drainage system, directing storm flows from roads to special drains, thereby strengthening the roadbed.
For whatever purpose this building material is used, in essence it is one and the same thing. The only thing that distinguishes a curbstone is its size, which we will return to.
What are curb stones
Depending on the application, this building material is of the following types:
• Road curbs. They are usually laid simultaneously with the construction of the roadway. The main purpose of these stones is to prevent the destruction of the coating, and therefore their installation is carried out by relevant organizations with trained specialists and the necessary equipment.
• Sidewalk. As the name implies, they are used to isolate pedestrian paths from the carriageway, design lawns, flower beds and public transport stops.
• Garden. This curbstone, the sizes of which differ in its dimensions to the smaller side, is usually used to perform decorative functions: design of flower beds, layout of the territory, framing of tracks, etc.
Regardless of the purpose, curb stones are made of fine-grained concrete. To improve the characteristics (frost resistance, moisture resistance, strength, etc.) this is done by dry vibropressing.
How curb stones are designated
And do they have GOST? The curbstone as such is not defined by any standards. However, actually being an onboard stone, it may well be referred to GOST 6665-91.
Marked curbs are quite simple. The letters indicate their type (BR - straight privates, BL - straight lines with a tray, BV - entry, BU - straight lines with broadening, BC - curved, BCU - straight lines with intermittent broadening). Further in centimeters the dimensions determining the curb stone (length-height-width) are indicated. For example, BR-100.20.8 means that we are dealing with a direct ordinary product with a length of 100, a height of 20 and a width of 8 centimeters.
Sizes and prices
The cost of a curbstone depends on the production technology and on the shape of the final product. So, a road border of the same length will cost less than the main, but more expensive than a garden. The same goes for sizes.
Most often meter stones are used (although there are curbs 40, 50, 60, 80 cm long) with a width of 8 to 20 cm and a height of 20 to 60 cm. The cost of this material varies from 150 rubles. for stone BR 100.20.8 to 990 rubles. per BR 100.60.20. For more detailed product pricing information, contact your specific manufacturer.
A curbstone, the dimensions of which would be ideally suited for the refinement of your territory, is quite possible to make yourself. To do this, a solution is mixed, consisting of equal parts of sand and cement with the addition of water. To optimize the process, gravel is added to it. The finished solution is poured into a pre-prepared formwork and left to harden.
To install the curb stone does not require any special technology. The main thing is to prepare the foundation, which is usually crushed stone and sand. The durability of the structure is ensured by the preliminary laying of special geotextiles.
