The exhibition center was opened on September 4, 2010, on a pedestal on which the famous monument “Worker and Collective Farm Girl” proudly stands, designed by Mukhina Vera Ignatievna. In its parameters, the pedestal-pavilion corresponds to the pavilion of the Soviet Union, designed for the world exhibition held in Paris in 1937, for which a 24-meter sculpture weighing about 180 tons was intended. The exhibition building can simultaneously accommodate more than a thousand people. The Museum and Exhibition Center “Worker and Collective Farm Girl” includes: exposition halls occupying three floors and updated according to the theme of exhibitions, a hall for various events and conferences, as well as a museum that clearly describes the history of the creation of the pavilion of the Soviet Union for a world exhibition, and our center time is modeled after it.
The idea of creating a sculpture
The idea of creating and the compositional design of the monument belongs to the architect Boris Mikhailovich Iofan, he directly supervised the construction of the pavilion, which presented the achievements of the Soviet people at the Paris exhibition of the thirty-seventh year. In a closed competition (in the summer of 1936) four famous sculptors participated: V.A. Andreev, I.D. Shadr, M.G. Manizer and V.I. Mukhina. After a couple of months, a show of projects was held, the state commission stopped the choice on the work of Vera Mukhina.

The exhibition complex is located in the central part of Moscow on Mira Avenue 123 b. You can get there by several bus routes to the VDNH-Severnaya stop, or Boris Glushilin Street, and by tram to the stop Sergei Eisenstein Street. There is personal transport to the exhibition center from Mira Avenue and Sergey Eisenstein Street , where there is a multi-tiered parking, you can also use the spacious VDNH parking lot. The Museum and Exhibition Center "Worker and Collective Farm Girl" (metro station VDNH Kaluga - Riga line) meets visitors every day from twelve o'clock in the afternoon to nine in the evening, except Monday.
Making a sculptural ensemble
In just a few months, the sculpture “Worker and Collective Farm Girl” was made using the latest technologies developed by Professor Pyotr Nikolaevich Lvov. Numerous details were attached to the huge frame, from which a monumental sculpture was formed. More than five thousand attachments were made of stainless chrome steel sheet, spot welding was used for the first time in the country to connect them. During the dismantling and transportation of the monument to Moscow, a significant part of the shell shell was damaged. During assembly, damaged elements were replaced, which led to deviations from the project. Initially, the sculptural composition of Mukhina was planned to be installed on the lock tower under construction at the Rybinsk hydroelectric station. And as a temporary solution, it was mounted on a small nondescript pedestal for the opening in 1939 of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (now VDNH), where it stood for the next 70 years before the construction of the Museum and Exhibition Center Worker and Collective Farm Girl complex.
The revival of monumental sculpture
The world masterpiece of modernism, due to its venerable age, has demanded global restoration work. The decision to restore was made back in 1987, but due to the collapse of the USSR and the deep economic crisis, work began only in 2003 and lasted six years. The sculptural composition, disassembled into forty fragments, was subjected to tests, troubleshooting, and the study of corrosion wear for a long time. Several contractors and specialized institutes took part in the reconstruction work under the leadership of a team of sculptors led by Vadim Tserkovnikov. Melikov TsNIIPSK specialists strengthened the supporting structures of the composition, cleaned and treated with anti-corrosion paste, and this paste was specially developed at the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM). Especially for the sculptural composition, a pedestal-pavilion was built, copying the Parisian original.

The museum of the complex has a permanent exposition dedicated to the famous monument of the Soviet era and the people who worked on its creation. The exhibition, which occupies the lobby and the entire first floor, includes: materials from the archive, unique pieces of the Stalin's Empire, elements of the first inner frame and hinged cladding, a set of personal belongings and professional tools of Vera Mukhina, models of sculptures from the thirties by Boris Iofan, Vera Mukhina, Georgy Motovilov and others. The musical activity of the museum and exhibition center "Worker and Collective Farm Girl" is represented by numerous concerts as part of the musical series "In the Sky above Moscow", held on the roof of the pavilion with a unique view of Moscow. The regular courses of the author's drawing also became regular. A course of ten lessons is conducted by the artist Dmitry Serov, he develops the concept of "universal visual literacy", proposed by Pavel Yakovlevich Pavlinov in the thirties of the last century. He believed that expressing his thoughts in graphic form is subject to all people, not just artists.

The Museum and Exhibition Center "Worker and Collective Farm Girl" will soon conduct a personal exhibition of the famous artist Vladimir Efimovich Dubossarsky entitled "Speaks and Shows FB." The series of musical evenings united by the project “In the Sky above Moscow” will be presented by performances: ESH ensemble with the Brazilian Suite program, Amber Sept ensemble with a jazz program, Julia Zyryanova and New Quartet with virtuoso performance of jazz compositions on the guitar. In warm time, musical evenings are held in the open air on the roof of the complex “Worker and Collective Farm Girl”.
