Onions are a product without which it is simply impossible to imagine the preparation of many dishes. There are a lot of varieties of it. Some types of onions can be stored for a long time, while others are consumed immediately. There are varieties that are ideal for frying, and there are those that are best added to salads. Therefore, experienced gardeners most often grow several varieties of vegetables in their summer cottages.
Bow Exhibit
One of the most popular varieties is Exibishen onion. Reviews of summer residents about him are always good. And this is not surprising. Although this salad variety has not been stored for more than four months, it gives a great harvest. His bulbs are very large. If you grow it from seeds, then the heads will reach a weight of up to 0.5 kg. When grown from seedlings, the bulb can reach a weight of 1 kg.
The yellow heads are rounded oval in shape. The neck of the bulb is thin. The taste of this variety is also unique - sweet, tender, without bitterness and pungency.
It is grown, as already mentioned, in two ways - by seedling or from seeds.
Seedling cultivation
Most often, growing onions from seedlings is not so difficult. Exibishen onion variety is no exception. The only thing that is required of you is to observe simple rules and work hard. It is grown under different conditions, however, the highest yield can be obtained in a well-lit area with fertile soil.
Preparing seeds
Many grow onion seeds (nigella) on their own, but sometimes gardeners purchase them. So, you bought seeds to grow Exibishen onion. Reviews from experienced gardeners suggest that they must be checked for germination.
You need to take about a dozen seeds and, carefully wrapped in a cloth, soak in warm water. After that, they are left in a warm place for five days. Then you can evaluate their quality - this time is enough for the seeds to sprout.
If you are convinced that the chernushka is of high quality, then with the remaining part, before you drop off, they do the same. Immediately before planting, seeds are advised to be treated with a disinfectant.
We grow seedlings
This sweet variety of onions ripens within about one hundred and fifteen days from the moment of planting in a permanent place. When using seedlings, after two years you can collect Exhibishen onions (photo seedlings above). First you need to grow sowing.
With the seedling method, onions are sown in the winter, closer to mid-February. We prepare and germinate the seeds as described above. After this, chernushka is planted in prepared containers. For these purposes, you can use wooden boxes or other special containers that are designed for growing seedlings.
Today, many people grow onions Exibishen. The reviews of those who have already encountered this variety indicate that the earth in the seed containers should be slightly moistened and at room temperature. Seeds need to be sown very densely, and then watered.
Containers with future seedlings are kept in well-lit and warm places. The first shoots appear already on the eighth to tenth day. Itβs easy to care for them. It is necessary to feed them using complex fertilizers and systematically water them. Seedlings are planted in open ground in the spring, after the ground has thawed and warmed up slightly by the sun.
We plant seedlings
First of all, it is necessary to prepare the soil. Loosen it and make sure it is soft. It is best to dig up the earth with a shovel and carefully level it with a rake. Using a marker, mark out even beds, keeping a distance of thirty centimeters between them. In the future, this will facilitate the weeding process. Now we plant onion Exibishen. Seedlings should be at a distance of 25 to 30 centimeters from each other.
Seed Growing
You can grow onions directly from the seeds. The only thing that will change is that you get a slightly finer Exibishen bow. Reviews of this variety indicate that some gardeners (especially beginners) consider the seedling method to be too complicated and long, so they resort to the second method of cultivation.
Sowing seeds begins in mid-spring, so they begin to prepare at the end of winter or at the very beginning of March. Make it easy.
First of all, liquid paste is prepared and mixed with fertilizer. This mixture must be applied to a toilet paper tape, cut lengthwise into three parts. This is best done with a syringe. For optimal germination, a drop of the mixture should be applied to the paper, maintaining a distance of five centimeters.
In drops of the mixture you need to carefully place the seeds of the Exibishen onion. We advise you to use tweezers for this. After the paste has completely dried, the paper tapes must be folded carefully and carefully.
Sow onions
In April, it's time to plant our prepared seeds. They are sown on fertile soils, planted to a depth of 1.5 centimeters. The beds are better prepared in advance, in the fall. Using a plane cutter, you need to make grooves and place paper tapes in them.
Small arcs should be installed above the beds and covered with non-woven material. Using covering material will not only help to save moisture and heat, but also protect your seedlings from pests (one of the most dangerous among them is the onion fly). At the same time, the Exibishen onion variety can be watered on top of the covering materials with a watering can.
Many summer residents advise to arrange carrot next to the onion bed. These vegetables are wonderful neighbors, and their specific smells for each other are additional protection against pests.
If you want to get a larger onion Exibishen (photo of the head above), then do not tear off green feathers during the growth process for salads. Be sure to regularly weed and water your beds. The first seedlings are very thin and delicate, so it is important to carefully clean the site of weeds in time.
After 115-130 days, you can start harvesting. The main thing is not to overexpose the bulbs in the ground, as they will become unsuitable for storage. The resulting crop must be placed in a dry, dark place (for example, in the attic) to dry. A nice feature of this variety is that the bulbs are not in depth, but almost entirely on the soil surface.
