Is ambition evil or virtue?

Of course, I have heard many times that ambition is an ambiguous concept, and for each person they are associated with certain pictures. Someone immediately imagines a businessman walking over his head and not able to see beyond his nose, that is, his career. And someone sees an ordinary person who dreams of breaking out into a brighter future with the help of his one strong desire.

As always, we turn to the scientific justification in which ambition is, firstly, the desire to reach some heights that few climb, and secondly, heightened vanity, as well as self-conceit multiplied by a hundredfold.

Definitions are on two diametrically opposite sides. On one of them, ambition is good; on the other, bad. We must figure out where such a substitution of concepts comes from when one term is interpreted in completely different ways. Perhaps we don’t understand something? Let's figure it out.

So, if we had asked a Frenchman, a Pole, an Englishman or a Russian a few centuries ago what ambition is, we would have received a definite answer - arrogance, arrogance, ambition, ambition. This term has the same meaning when translated from Latin (ambitio). An ambitious person is perceived as a rogue who is looking for profit and is ready to give up anything in order to satisfy his needs.

A little later, with the development of capitalism, the population of Europe (we are talking about the tops and advanced youth) begins to use the β€œambitious person” as a compliment to those who have achieved success in a certain area, earned money and thereby become famous at least within their circle.

Thus, ambition is not only the desire itself to achieve what others do not have, but also to some extent vanity. It turns out that in our country no one now notices that when pronouncing one category, we endow it with non-identical definitions. So, each of us speaks his own language, relying either on explanatory dictionaries, or on films and series that have come from the West.

An interesting study was conducted by American scientists whose findings should be obvious. It's no secret that an ambitious person, trying to achieve recognition and success, often gets into stressful situations and gradually accumulates negative emotions. Due to chronic fatigue, the body wears out, and, sadly, such people die faster than their peers, who do not have such significant successes.

But what is ambition without result? Empty sound. However, for the result to be, it is necessary to make at least some effort, and not just consider yourself a person with ambitions. Ambitions are not instilled in us from birth, they appear in the process of personality socialization, when we make connections, establish contacts and make progress in any field.

Thus, a vicious circle is obtained - a person who has achieved something automatically tries to set big goals for himself, since he has already taken place in a certain area of life.

Then ambitions take over and from the positive trait that encourages us to work (labor ennobles a person), they turn into a threat to the individual. The fact is that according to the results of American studies again, ambitious people are less likely to start families, since most likely, from childhood, parents clearly and clearly set priorities in which career growth is everything.

Often, along with a frenzied desire for success and money comes selfishness, or rather it comes into full force. And egoism is useful only in limited doses, so, whatever one may say, health suffers.

So what is ambition? If scientifically, then evil is universal. And honestly, let everyone decide for himself. However, in our power to develop this quality is more likely to stimulate ourselves to action than to swagger and cultivate excessive megalomania.
