Fast-growing shrub brugmansia: planting and care

Brugmansia, planting and care of which is carried out on their own site, is a beautiful shrub that is distinguished by lush flowering and belongs to the solanaceous family. Provided that the plant is properly maintained, the plant can reach a height of five meters. Flowers have a tubular bell-shaped shape. Their diameter reaches 20 cm, while the length is 50 cm. As for the color, it is quite diverse. The Brugmansia flower, whose photo is located below, boasts a pleasant aroma, which is almost elusive in the daytime, but intensifies after nightfall. The leaves grow up to half a meter in length and have an elongated oval shape. An interesting feature of this shrub is its rapid development. In particular, stems, flowers, and leaves grow at a rate of geometric progression.

This shrub can be propagated in several ways: seeds, aerial layering and cuttings. In the first case, for a plant such as Brugmansia, planting and care begin in the month of January, when the seeds are sent to pots with light soil to a depth of one centimeter. Then they are watered and covered with a film. Provided that a favorable temperature regime of 20-25 degrees and bright light is ensured, after ten days you can wait for the first shoots to appear, which must be removed from the film and sprayed with water every two to three days. After the formation of the fifth leaf, the seedlings of shrubs of Brugmansia, planting and care of which will be performed on their own site, can be moved to separate pots.

The use of the method of air layering involves the use of last year’s ready-to-bloom shoot. It is necessary to make a small cut on it, which should be sprinkled with a stimulator of root formation and wrapped in moss. The latter should be constantly wet. After about 45 days, the shoot is separated, flowers and leaves are removed from it, and then planted in a separate pot. As you can see, for a plant such as Brugmansia, planting and care are quite elementary. The main thing is to regularly spray the shoot with warm water in the future. The root system on it will appear approximately in three weeks. After that, you can transfer to a permanent place.

When grafting, annual crown shoots are used. Their length should be about 20 cm. The process usually starts in May. Cuttings are placed in water and defend in a well-lit place. After about 15 days, they will have roots. When they grow 5 cm, seedlings of Brugmansia are sent in separate pots filled with light soil, half consisting of peat and one fourth of perlite and sand. If the temperature will constantly be more than 20 degrees - in less than a month the cuttings will take root.

Best in the garden for this shrub is an open sunny area, protected from the winds. It should be watered in hot time daily, and in cloudy conditions, provided that the soil dries. With severe drought, it is recommended to periodically spray the leaves in the evening. The main thing is that moisture does not get on the flowers. Water stagnation must not be allowed, because this can lead to decay of the root system. In autumn, the plant should be moved to a room with good lighting. Watering he needs is not as intense as in the summer. The best option for wintering is considered a window seat in a warm greenhouse.
