After the 2014 Olympics, the famous Russian resort city has changed beyond recognition. Sochi became younger, prettier, acquired a special gloss and personality.
And today, thousands of tourists from all over the world come here to see unique Olympic venues. One of them, undoubtedly, is the Iceberg Ice Palace (Sochi), whose address is easy to remember - Adler, Olympic Park.
Palace Features
A feature of this structure is a collapsible design. If necessary, the Iceberg can be disassembled and transported to another location. The Ice Sports Palace in Sochi is a unique building created by Russian architects, engineers and builders. All construction work on the preparation of the 2014 Olympics and the construction of this facility was controlled by the state. This guarantees the highest level of safety and quality.

Iceberg Iceberg (Sochi): history of creation
The palace was erected in record time. Its construction began in 2009. Already in 2012, All-Russian figure skating competitions were held here. Athletes appreciated the construction itself and the quality of the ice. International testing of the skating rink took place during the final of the Grand Prix in figure skating, which was held by the International Union of Skaters in December 2012. Almost at the same time, short track tracks were tested during the Russian Championship. And next in the arena of the palace began the Russian Figure Skating Championship (2013).
And finally, in 2014, the Iceberg Ice Palace (Sochi) met Olympic athletes. The competitions held in this complex were very successful for our team, therefore, for the Russians “Iceberg” became a place of pleasant memories and vivid impressions.
Palace Description
The Iceberg Ice Palace (Sochi) reminds one of its appearance of a huge floating block of ice that sways in the waves and sparkles with a cool blue brilliance. Everyone who has already visited this sports complex tells about the amazing impressions that this building leaves.
Everything is thought out to the smallest detail here so that fans and spectators can concentrate on competition and performance. Iceberg Ice Palace (Sochi) has a two-tier structure, which includes a luxurious VIP box. The beauty and exquisite architecture of the palace is combined with high quality construction. Modern materials were used in the construction: solid concrete, transparent, like a tear, glass, steel. The building area is about 68,000 square meters and can accommodate 12,000 spectators at the same time.
Athletic facilities
In addition to the ice arena, which has dimensions standard for this type of structure - 30 x 60 meters, the ice palace has a training skating rink for skaters and tracks for short track racing - a form of speed skating that is still not very popular in our country. There are also comfortable rooms for sharpening skates, warm-up and fitness areas, as well as restaurants and conference rooms. Competitors note the high professionalism of the complex.
Iceberg Iceberg (Sochi) is a universal structure. Here you can also hold competitions in summer sports. This transformation provides a special terracover insulation coating applied directly to the ice.
Two microclimates are supported in the arena of the palace - one for ice cover, and the second for stands. For the convenience of visitors, two tiers around the perimeter are connected by stairs and passages. The wonderful palace, whose height is thirty-four meters, has five floors. On the first are:
- gym;
- Ice Arena;
- locker rooms for athletes.
On the second and third floors there are stands for spectators. The fourth floor is reserved for the VIP box. On the fifth floor there are facilities for holding press conferences and providing television and radio broadcasts.
Palace after the Olympics
The further fate of the palace has not yet been finally decided. At the beginning, it was planned that after the end of the Olympic competitions, the Iceberg would be redesigned for a huge cycle track that meets Olympic standards (250 m). But this information is not yet confirmed. In addition, the plans of the builders included the dismantling of the structure and its transfer to another city, but this has not happened yet.
Currently, Iceberg holds not only sports competitions in its arena, but also enchanting ice shows. One of them was a great program with the participation of Russian athlete Evgeni Plushenko. It was called "The Snow King." And on New Year's holidays in 2017, the premiere of the performance of Bremen Town Musicians by Ilya Averbukh took place in the palace.
