Everyone knows about the difficult fate of the city of Leningrad and the blockade during the Great Patriotic War. Years go by, and all the horrors of that terrible time in the history of the country are gradually forgotten, as well as the exploits of the soldiers of our army. You can refresh the memories of the war and learn something new for yourself by visiting the Museum of the Siege of Leningrad. In modern St. Petersburg, there are two expositions that exist and are working properly, completely dedicated to the life of the city during the Great Patriotic War.

Museum of Defense and Siege of Leningrad in Solyaniy Lane

Museum of the blockade of Leningrad
In 1944, the first exhibition was opened, dedicated to the life of the city residents during the war. It is noteworthy that the Museum of the Siege of Leningrad was created in such a difficult time - on this basis it is the only one in our entire country. In his collection you can see exhibits dedicated to the days of war, the work of residents in factories, as well as things related to the Road of Life and the everyday life of the city’s defenders. All these originals are real weapons of the military personnel, uniforms and personal belongings of soldiers. The Museum of Defense and Siege of Leningrad also has heavy artillery pieces in its collection, and also demonstrates some types of aircraft and tanks. This exposure was immediately loved by the inhabitants of the Northern capital, but, despite this fact, it was closed in 1949 for an official investigation. Many exhibits were seized or intentionally destroyed. The museum could open its doors to visitors again only in 1989. Today his collection is steadily replenishing again. Veterans and their relatives bring some things, sometimes some archaeological finds come here.

In the 1970s, work began on the creation of a memorial complex dedicated to the Great Patriotic War in the Kirov region (Leningrad region). In 1985, a diorama museum was opened here, today the common name of the complex is “Breakthrough of the Siege of Leningrad”, it includes the famous memorials “Sinyavsky Heights” and “Nevsky Piglet”, as well as a number of other monuments. Art canvas diorama has a size of 40 by 8 meters. It was created with the participation of several respected military consultants. This exhibit clearly demonstrates the main events of Operation Iskra, which lasted 7 days in January 1943. The Leningrad Siege of Blockade Museum also has a collection of military equipment located in the open. One of the most interesting exhibits is the KV-1 tank, which participated in battles and was lifted from the bottom of the Neva.
