To give the roof a complete look, it is necessary not only to mount roofing materials, but also to make a binder of its hanging parts (overhangs). Preparatory work for this begins even at the stage of installation of the rafters: the ends of the rafters need to be filed in one line. Pay attention not only to the length of the prominent section of the rafters, but also to the angle of the saw: it should be parallel to the wall.
The next step, which requires the filing of the roof eaves, is the installation of the crate. Boards are used for her. They are mounted parallel to each other. The general view of the roof depends on how carefully the preparatory work is done . To make the joint between the facade and the roof airtight, the overhang of the roof overhangs is done before the installation of the insulation. This ensures better sealing, and therefore a longer life of the materials.
Selection of materials for binder
When arranging the binder, do not forget about ventilation: the material must be protected from atmospheric precipitation, but it must have channels for removing excess moisture, otherwise the accumulating condensate will cause the destruction of roofing materials.
Most often, the overhang of roof eaves is made of corrugated board, lining (wooden or PVC) and soffit. It is advisable to use corrugated board if roofing tiles or corrugated board itself are taken as roofing material. This material has good strength and guarantees high-quality protection against precipitation.
Spotlights - a type of plastic panels, designed specifically for the sewing of roofs. It has a greater thickness compared to siding and special perforation, which is necessary for ventilation. Spotlights are mounted perpendicular to the plane of the roof. Other options are not provided by technology.
The lining of roof overhangs with clapboard is popular. When using wooden lining, it must be selected carefully: the wood should not have too low humidity, and the lining should be quite thick (at least 5-7 mm). PVC wall paneling is the most economical option. Choose waterproof types and do not forget about the plastic corners that are necessary for processing joints.
Overhang hemming procedure
Guides (boards) are filled to the pre-sawn rafters from below and from the ends. The board is also fixed on the wall, to which the end of the hem plates will be attached. If the roof extends beyond the wall by more than 40 cm, another intermediate guide is needed, otherwise the slats will be sagged, and the binder may be damaged in strong winds.
The roof overhang from the lining is mounted on these slats. With the help of a spotlight, a special bar is fastened, which is fixed with screws. The sheets of spotlights are cut into tapes of the required width (it is equal to the distance between the installation strips minus 6 mm for thermal expansion). Decking is fixed with screws to wooden planks. To ensure ventilation, its width should be slightly (1-2 cm) shorter than the width of the overhang. All work requires accuracy, but there should be no difficulties when following the recommendations. Of course, you can entrust everything to professionals, but filing overhangs of the roof (the price is per square meter, and usually they add for high-altitude work) is quite expensive.
