Pipe clamps are very common in construction, it is a universal, easily accessible, reliable and inexpensive pipe fasteners. With its help, water, sewer, ventilation and heating pipes are attached. Using such elements, one can easily achieve a strong, reliable and tight fixation. At the same time, pipe clamps (what are they - we will consider later) are invisible, they can be easily hidden from the eyes, without violating the design when carrying out fastening work on the external part of the communications. As a rule, they consist of a ring fixed with a screw and nut.
Clamps: what is, their purpose and technical characteristics
The devices are very simple in appearance and consist of a tightening metal ring, a rubber grooved gasket and a side mount, with which the clamp is attached to the emergency site.
Answering the question about clamps - what is it, it should be noted that these elements perform 2 main functions:
- during installation, fix communication elements to the walls or ceiling;
- close cracks, holes, corrosion, punctures, the consequences of unsuccessful repairs.
The sizes of the clamps can be very different. The thickness of such metal products for pipes for domestic use is from 1 to 2 mm. The base of the clamp should cover the repair site with some margin, so these fasteners have a wide steel shell and a dense gasket made of cellular rubber. Galvanized hose clamps 110 mm are used for fastening sewer and ventilation elements of large diameter, and with a diameter of 50 mm they are used for piping water for summer houses and laying sanitary pipes in risers.
Types of pipe clamps
There are several types of devices that differ in their purpose, material of manufacture and range of tightening.
Depending on the material, the clamps are:
- Plastic
- Metal.
Metal clamps for pipes (steel) with a rubber gasket are more rigid, therefore they are used for fastening copper, cast-iron and metal-plastic pipes. The gasket is installed to provide a tight soft joint and to protect pipelines in places of attachment from wear.
A plastic product has lower stiffness characteristics compared to a metal one, but at the moment it is used more often than a steel clamp. This is largely due to the fact that today, PVC pipes are used to organize sewage, water supply, air ducts and the installation of drainage systems . These fasteners are well suited for polyethylene, polypropylene and other materials.
On the use of clamps are:
- Pipe with nut.
- Hose with nut.
- Reinforced.
- Electrical Engineering.
- One-piece.
- Repair.
- Films.
Plumbing clamps
The main purpose of these repair elements is to eliminate various malfunctions in the operation of pipelines. Leaks in a sewer or plumbing system can occur for a variety of reasons, for example, as a result of improper installation of equipment, cuts, punctures, exposure to chemicals, or simple wear and tear. Similar troubles can happen with ventilation elements.
Mortise
The steel clamp can be of various designs: from metal strips, with a valve and pipe, with a rubberized casing. There are types that are equipped with a rubber gasket or flange fasteners with a set of nuts and bolts. There are also several universal types suitable for steel, cast-iron and asbestos-cement pipelines.
For grounding
In some cases, metal supports, which are used for mounting on a cast-iron wall, are used simultaneously as pipe clamps for grounding. Flat galvanized hoops encircle metal elements, and with a pointed end the rod is embedded directly into the cavity. For tightness and durability of the device, as a rule, welding is used.
Mounting clamps
Now you know what clamps are. What such an appropriation is necessary for each master, is beyond doubt. Considering the clamps, one also cannot but mention the fasteners. Install them along the entire length of the pipeline and most often with the same interval. The average distance between two fasteners is from 0.8 to 1.5 m. It must be remembered that this type of fastener is relevant only for light products, and dimensional, large and heavy lines are fixed in a different way.
