Threaded rivets, varieties and applications

Often the fastening of metal parts must be done quickly and without special preparation of the workpiece. In these cases, the use of welding is impractical or impossible, and there is no need to use a bolted and threaded connection. In such cases, a special rivet joint is used . It is more reliable than just a rivet.

Threaded rivets

steel rivets

The rivet itself is a hybrid of a conventional fastening rivet with conventional fastening threaded materials. In this case, do not confuse with conventional exhaust rivets. They are made in the form of bushings of a certain size and a certain diameter. Subsequently, threads are cut on the inner or outer surface, depending on the purpose of the fasteners. This type of rivets is produced at specialized enterprises, mainly as secondary production from the main one, as a rule, on production production lines. The prices of threaded rivets are not very high, which makes them an affordable material for fastening.

Varieties

The assortment of threaded rivets is so large that trying to describe it completely is almost impossible. According to the material from which they are made, 4 main types are divided:

  • aluminum;
  • copper;
  • steel;
  • from stainless steel.
non-ferrous metal rivets

From non-ferrous metals, fasteners are used mainly for decorative use, when aesthetics are more important for the consumer. Rivets made of steel and stainless steel are used for fastening thicker and stronger materials, where reliability and durability are required. In appearance, the heads are divided into two main types - these are flat and countersunk fasteners (rivets). By type of application, the threads are divided into nut and screw. A nut is used for non-separable connections, and a screw or pipe is used where it is necessary to disassemble the fasteners to replace or repair fastened parts.

By the appearance of the legs, rivets with threads are round and hexagonal. By type of collar, there are three main types: open or closed, secret, small or large.

For the main purpose, rivets are:

  • conductive - they are made of non-ferrous metals;
  • with inch, pipe thread;
  • high strength rivets where special tightness is required;
  • with increased effort in compression and tension;
  • special rivets with an enlarged head;
  • vibration and wear resistant.

Benefits

The main advantage of the rivet with M6 thread is the ease of installation on metal products. Using these rivets, it is possible to bond soft and brittle materials without deforming them, for example, sheet metal. Also, one of the advantages of these rivets is the ability to fasten materials significantly exceeding the thickness of the length of the fastening part. And do not forget that a more reliable fastening is provided by the thread, which is located on the outer and inner surfaces of the fastener, depending on the conditions of the fastener.

Application

threaded rivet tool

Threaded rivets are used almost anywhere, there are no special restrictions. The main thing is the correct choice of material and, accordingly, the size range of rivets for better fasteners. When working with them, the action algorithm is quite simple:

  • drill a hole, respectively, with a rivet allowance;
  • installed in a threaded rivet tool;
  • placed in a drilled hole;
  • squeeze while fastening the workpiece.

Everyone can independently apply this type of fixture independently, at the same time it is not necessary to have special skills. The most important thing is to have a simple drill and a special rivet tool. It is especially convenient to use when fastening sheets of metal, or when fastening materials where it is necessary that the head of the fastener is recessed into the body of the material.
