We will not judge whether they are right and will describe the games of 2014 on the PC. The list, of course, will be incomplete, but we will try to list all the most noticeable events of that time.

We will start with one of the most famous and expected MMORPGs over the past two years - Black Desert. This application was included in the best free games of 2014. Ultramodern graphics, the most interesting gameplay and class system, the developed economic component, which was supposed to plug in the belt the much-touted seamless world of ArcheAge.
This project is presented to us like that, but not everything is so rosy. Judging by the feedback from the players, most are completely unhappy that they slipped them in a candy wrapper. Long pedestrian crossings, sad character leveling on monotonous opponents. Unrealistic amount of donation and action points that are spent even on a conversation with the NPS. This is if you still don’t remember the scandal with the purchased premium accounts on subscription servers that the localizers forgot to launch, but refused to return the money to people. In general, a spectacular breakthrough in the MMO industry did not happen in 2014, and the games of 2014 on PC, the list of which we are compiling, continued to fall in the eyes of users.
Simulators
Sims 3 - probably everyone has heard of them. A real life simulator with a carefully thought out world. Hundreds of professions and hobbies, trips, adventures, parties and a bunch of add-ons further expand the functionality of the game. But what happened? Released Sims 4 could well get into the best games of 2014, if the developers at least a little effort.
Judging by the feedback from the players, not everyone liked the new version of the series that everyone loved. Most professions were cut down, the city and the number of public places were reduced, non-player characters behave like robots, they will not come to visit themselves and will not show initiative. The city is empty and does not live its life without the knowledge of the player. One of the most anticipated games of 2014, Dragon Age: Inquisition, also received mixed ratings from users. Although this is already a breakthrough compared to the two games that we talked about above. The third part of the series had high hopes. Despite the fact that the second DA received mostly negative reviews, fans of the series were waiting for “salvation”. But what did you get in the end?
A huge but empty world. The most boring murder of monsters in each location and the ill-conceived, illogical plot that makes you fall asleep already in the first hour of the game. Of the positive aspects, we can single out only the quality of the graphics and the social aspect, which allows you to build relationships with the opposite (and not only) gender.
In general, we can conclude that if it were not for the big name of the well-known franchise, then it could have turned out to be a pretty tolerable RPG at once.
Horror
And in this genre, gamers were expecting another disappointment. The famous game designer Shinji Mikami, who at one time created the brilliant Resident Evil, left his brainchild and began to release the “new” game - The Evil Within. The story began with the fact that with the release of the 4th part of "Resident", many connoisseurs of the genre "threw rotten tomatoes" at Mikami, because he, under the guise of "innovation," turned horror into a shooter. After that, it was no laughing matter, and the designer went to create his new project.
What about the Evil within? If for the plot itself, gamers assigned this offspring more or less high marks, and the soundtrack was in the spirit of Mikami, then from everything else the rating of this game fell very much. Inconvenient management and poor optimization - this is the first impression of the players about this project. Following this are uninteresting and dull characters, locations that experienced players have already seen in other games, and the monotonous passage of levels, which already by the 3rd chapter allows us to understand what will happen next.
On average, according to player reviews, this creation can be safely set to 6/10. This, of course, is not bad, considering that the games of 2014 on PC, the list of which is presented here, according to users, deserve a maximum of five.
Action
Every genre has its fans. The same can be said for the Thief series of games. In 2014, the fourth part of the series saw the light. But this, alas, did not become a breakthrough. The stealth action in a gloomy city was supposed to capture and immerse the player in their atmosphere, but most users during the game had the feeling that they were deceived, and the game was released to people with IQ less than mice. Artificial intelligence is dull, the physics of sound is absent compared to the previous parts. The plot has slipped into "casual" and does not require any mental effort from the player. The character is not disclosed. Another failure of a loud franchise. However, for those who have not played in the previous parts, this creation may seem quite usable.
Another quite expected game of this genre - Assassin's Creed Unity, could also get into the best games of 2014. The publisher promised mass scenes, a well-developed city and plot. But in the end, users again got a raw product. A city that is dull and monotonous to disgrace, banal tasks and a huge cloud of bugs and flaws. The ported version on PC sins with low FPS, and the elaboration of textures and models leaves much to be desired. So even in this case, a breakthrough did not happen.
Action movie
What other gamers need computer games in 2014? Shooting and action movies are genres that are very difficult to "screw up". But even here there are misses. One of the most anticipated applications that hit the latest games in the summer of 2014 is Watch Dogs. She got a very entertaining story.
If usually magazines give high marks, and gamers are lower or equal, then everything is exactly the opposite. According to most reviews, the game is a mixture of GTA and Assassins Creed, but falls short of their scale. Stealth and avoiding chases are boring and monotonous, and shooting and action are too simple. But you can’t convince users. According to the feedback from the players, the project turned out to be fascinating and original. Yes, it is full of minor flaws, but it is difficult for a modern person to please, and there will always be someone who will be dissatisfied. In general, the game deserves a rating of 8/10, according to most users.

Fans of the domestic igrostroy also awaited great disappointment. Russian games of 2014 are almost impossible to find. Russian studios prefer to translate and localize, instead of developing. So that year was not so productive. Players could only be pleased with the multiple updates of online games that haven’t already died - Allods, Prime World and others.
Free games are not encouraging either. You can find hundreds of different indie applications on the net, but there's nothing catchy at all. One can only distinguish games released on the anime Fairy Tail and One Piece, but their free is rather conditional. Developing them without investing money is difficult enough, and this process can take all your time.
