Hakob Nazaretyan is a well-known Russian scientist who specializes in the psychology of mass behavior and cultural anthropology. He also wrote a number of publications on the theory of the development of society, the so-called "big history". This is the history of the development of mankind in the context of the history of the entire Universe and planet Earth.
Scientist works
Hakob Nazaretyan was born in Baku in 1948. During his scientific career, he managed to publish about 250 publications, including eight monographs. He is a doctor of philosophical sciences, as well as a candidate in psychological sciences. He is the editor-in-chief of the journal “Historical Psychology and Sociology of History”, the chief researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Among his colleagues, Hakob Nazaretyan is best known as the author of the hypothesis of a techno-humanitarian balance. On its basis, he explained the development of cultural regulators of behavior, and also correlated thinking with technological progress. According to Hakob Nazaretyan, the growth of technological power requires humanity to develop new moral constraints. Nazaretyan conducted his research in political psychology. In particular, he investigated the phenomenon of social violence: how it developed in the past and how it develops in the present. The scientist was also interested in aspects of mass spontaneous behavior: how an aggressive-minded crowd behaves, how rumors spread in society, which can lead to unexpected mass panic.
By the nature of his activity, Nazaretyan advised many political leaders, not only in Russia, but also in the former republics of the Soviet Union. He helped them in the conduct of election campaigns, helped to prevent or promptly repay social conflicts.
He sets out many of his ideas on the pages of the journal “Historical Psychology and Sociology of History,” of which he is the chief editor.

In 2005, the publishing house "Academy" published his lecture course on the psychology of spontaneous mass behavior. In it, he considers how an aggressive crowd is formed, how a person can resist a mass panic, what dirty election technologies and black PR are. He illustrates all these questions with a large number of examples from fiction and scientific literature, as well as from his rich personal experience.
In 2015, he published the book “The Anthropology of Violence and a Culture of Self-Organization,” which explores the evolution of social violence in society. He carefully considers the hypothesis of techno-humanitarian balance.
He especially studies the critical phases of human history, which over time have become creative cultural responses to anthropogenic crises. Through centuries of historical experience, the author tries to understand the main crises of modern civilization, to predict scenarios for the further development of events.
