Automobile and railway stations of Kharkov. City transport infrastructure

Kharkov is an important administrative, scientific, educational and transport center of Ukraine. The second largest city in the country. This article will focus on the transport infrastructure of Kharkov, its railway and bus stations.

Transport infrastructure of the city: stations of Kharkov

Kharkov is a major transport hub in Ukraine. The most important European routes pass through the city, in particular, the E40 and E105 highways. Almost all types of transport (except sea and river) are represented in Kharkov. There is an airport operating 12 kilometers from the city center, carrying out regular flights to Kiev, Minsk, Warsaw, Istanbul.

Domestic city passenger transportation is provided by the subway, trams, trolleybuses, buses and fixed-route taxis. The metro system of the city is represented by three lines and 30 underground stations. Every year it transports about 250 million people. Exotic types of transport also work in Kharkov. So, in the forest park zone there is a children's railway (narrow gauge). The main park of the city named after Gorky is connected to the Pavlovo Pole residential area by cable car.

Kharkiv train stations

Kharkiv stations take on the main “cargo” for the transportation of passengers, raw materials and finished products. Every day, dozens of trains pass through the main railway gate of the city. Within Kharkov there are two checkpoints across the borders of Ukraine. One of them is located at the Kharkov-Passenger station, and the second at the Kharkov-Sortirovochny station.

Railway stations and stations of Kharkov

How to get to the city of Kharkov? Station, bus station - these are the city objects that will be first seen by a tourist who arrived in the “first capital” not in his car. First, we will tell you about the railway stations and stations of Kharkov. How many are there?

Five railway lines converge in Kharkov, two of which lead to the neighboring country of Russia. The railway junction of the city includes a number of railway stations and stations (more than ten), two sorting stations, as well as carriage and locomotive depots with all the necessary structural units. The main stations and stations of Kharkov:

  • South Station.
  • Levada.
  • Losevo.
  • The foundation.
  • Novoselovka.
  • Kharkov-Balashovsky.

In addition, within the city there are a number of small stations and platforms on which exclusively suburban trains stop: New Bavaria, Novozhanovo, Vereshchakovka, Dikanevka and others.

Kharkiv Railway Station

To date, 64 long-distance trains and 198 suburban trains (electric trains and diesel engines) run through Kharkov. From the city you can go directly to Kiev, the Dnieper, Lviv, Ternopil, Krivoy Rog, Voronezh, Moscow, Kazan, Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Minsk, Astana and Tashkent. By suburban trains from Kharkov you can get to Lozova, Kupyansk, Lyubotin, Krasnograd, Merefa, Balakliya, Raisins and a number of other settlements in Kharkov and neighboring regions of Ukraine.

South Station (Kharkov)

South Station - is the main railway station in Kharkov, located in the city center, within the Kholodnogorsky district. Nearby is the metro station of the same name, through one of the exits of which you can get directly into the station building.

The station was opened in 1869. Throughout history, its main building was rebuilt three times. The one that can be seen now was built in the early 50s of the last century. This is a monumental, grandiose building in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism, with powerful columns, sculptures and two symmetrical towers 42 meters high. The main hall of the station with a spherical and generously painted ceiling resembles the interiors of the majestic cathedral.

The entire station complex includes the passenger station building itself, ticket offices, the Express Hotel (a gray nondescript building attached at the end of the 70s), a luggage compartment, seven landing platforms and two underground tunnels. Near the station there is a well-groomed and very cozy Railway Station Square with fountains, flowerbeds and benches. In the warmer months, it is incredibly pleasant to spend time waiting for your train.

Bus stations in Kharkov

Bus stations in Kharkov are also an important link in the transport infrastructure of the city. There are five of them (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6).

The first bus routes connected Kharkov with other cities in the early 30s. However, at that time there was still no specialized building for receiving and sending intercity flights. The main bus station of the city was built in 1957. It is located on Gagarin Avenue near the Levada railway station. By the way, the building itself is made in the style of Stalin's neoclassicism, which is extremely rare among the bus stations of the post-Soviet space. As a rule, they are all nondescript and inexpressive in architectural terms.

From the main Kharkov bus station you can leave for a number of cities in Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, countries of Eastern and Western Europe.
