Bamboo home - decorative and deciduous perennial. In nature, this is a fairly high plant of the cereal family with a cranked trunk and lush foliage. Home bamboo, the care of which will be described in this article, usually refers to one of the dwarf species, and its height does not exceed forty-five centimeters. Let's first talk about some interesting features of this plant.
Bamboo in nature
This plant differs from other representatives of the cereal family by a lignified stem. Bamboo ( home care takes into account the characteristics of dwarf varieties) comes from the subtropics and tropics. It grows in Australia, East Asia, America, reaching enormous sizes - the height of its stem sometimes exceeds forty meters! Bamboo with a grassy stem is low - up to a meter. There are also species with curly shoots. The latter usually live in the shade of tall plants, differ in shade tolerance and cold resistance. One of the most interesting features of bamboo is the rapid growth of the stem. In some species, an increase in its length to eighty centimeters per day is possible. Bamboo reaches its maximum height in a couple of weeks. After sprouting, a few short lateral shoots with a pair of leaves develop. Bamboo blooms and bears fruit (leaving at home can hardly affect this in any way) is extremely rare. Indoor species are not yet very widespread.
Bamboo: home care
This thermophilic tropical plant can be grown in the room. It is necessary to take into account the temperature of the air, its dryness and humidity differences. Dwarf species of bamboo stand out among other indoor plants with an unusual shape of the stem, delicate leaves. They need bright sun, moist and loose soil, high humidity of atmospheric air. But bamboo overwinter (home care will have a positive effect when all aspects of growing are taken into account) is better in a dry and cool place. The plant must be protected from any draft - even a stream of warm air can adversely affect its growth. How to water a bamboo? In the summer - plentifully, not allowing the soil to dry out. In winter - moderately and carefully. Pour fine gravel into the pan, pour water and put a container with the plant there - the bamboo will absorb the right amount of liquid. In order for the air to remain moist, the plant must be sprayed.
To do this, use only warm water. Can be installed in the room
where bamboo grows, a humidifier. The soil for this plant needs clay. A mixture of turf land with humus and peat is suitable. During the growth period, feed bamboo with complex fertilizer. And be prepared for the fact that the seedling grown from seeds will slowly add to the growth. It is better to propagate bamboo vegetatively - by dividing the rhizome, stem or root cuttings. Every spring, the plant requires transplanting into new soil and a large capacity. Be careful not to damage the bamboo root.
