In Nizhny Novgorod there are a sufficient number of places where residents can relax after a busy day or spend a fun and useful weekend. One of such popular places, especially among active people, is the Nagorny Sports Complex. The Sports Palace was built more than 45 years ago, but, as before, does not lose its top positions in popularity among visitors of different ages.
Where is it and how to get there
KRK "Nagorny" (Sports Palace) is located in the Soviet district. It is located directly on Gagarin Avenue. The building is clearly visible from afar. Features of the development of the complex
The building was built in 1965. At its base, the hockey team Torpedo trained and competed. Then the Sports Palace was built at the Automobile Plant, and it was relocated there.
In this building, the city's basketball team played and trained and the women's hockey team was based. Since 2007, Torpedo returned to Nagorny. The sports palace is prepared for reconstruction. This was due to the running condition of the building and the new rules in the hockey league.
According to the regulations, since 2007 the teams that entered the Super League should have had an ice rink with a capacity of more than 5.5 thousand at their base. Therefore, the ice arena had to be rapidly expanded and improved.
Construction took half a year. During this time, a lot of work was done in several large stages. In September, the renovated Sports Palace Nagorny opened.
Modern building for sports
The project provided for the construction of several outbuildings. At the second stage of reconstruction, one of them was completely completed. A four-story component of the complex was erected from the end part. It housed:
- large sports and games room;
- library;
- medical compartment;
- spacious conference room with modern equipment;
- sports museum;
- cafe and restaurant.
The second extension of the Nagorny Sports Palace should be from Gagarin Avenue. According to the plan, the regional organization of trade unions should be located in it. This construction belongs to long-term projects and will take more than one year.
DS activities
The renovated building of the Nagorny (Sports Palace in Nizhny) allows holding competitions of different levels in it. This possibility is associated with a complete reconstruction of the building, which was carried out according to all international requirements.
Now the hockey teams Torpedo and Skif are playing and training here. Also on a regular basis in the building skaters are engaged in ice. Experienced athletes and small future champions are training here.
For many years, a school of hockey for children has been operating with great success in Nagorny. The Sports Palace organizes night skating on the ice for residents of the city. At weekends, the skating rink is also open for visitors and outdoor enthusiasts.
Bright and colorful show programs are periodically arranged at the ice arenas. Local athletes and groups from other cities and countries perform in them. In this way, more children and youth are attracted to sports.
Classes are held on the short track in the "Nagorny". The Sports Palace in Nizhny Novgorod is fully equipped for such activities. This section is in great demand among active citizens.

During the reconstruction, a large oval was painted on the facade of the building. Then a circle was placed inside it. Thus, the human eye has turned out. This symbol has become the emblem of "Nagorno". The Sports Palace has an official website with the same logo.
This emblem is clearly visible from all entrances to the building. In the evening, the “eye” comes to life under the light of lanterns and strictly watches people passing by and passing by.
