Briefly about the Rostov region

An administrative unit called the Rostov Region was created back in 1937. It is located in the extreme southwest of our homeland. The capital of the region is the glorious city of Rostov-on-Don.

The relief of the region is flat with average heights of 150-200 meters. The territory is densely cut with beams and ravines, which create beautiful landscapes in places! The hydrographic grid of the region is represented by the largest European river Don, as well as its largest tributaries - Manych and Seversky Donets. Within the region there is a huge artificial lake - Tsimlyansk reservoir. In the west, the region has access to the shallowest sea of โ€‹โ€‹the planet - the Sea of โ€‹โ€‹Azov.

The territory of the Rostov Region is characterized by a classic temperate continental climate with hot, arid summers and cold winters with frequent severe frosts. There is little precipitation per year (300-500 mm), with most of them falling in the summer season.

A unique symbol of the Rostov region is the steppe. There are very few forests here, they make up about 2.8% of the total territory.

In the Rostov region, 4.3 million people live. By the way, this is more than in many European countries. This region is multinational and multicultural. So, here you can hear both Russian speech, and Ukrainian or Armenian. Over a hundred different nationalities coexist peacefully on this beautiful land.

Semantics of colors of the flag of the Rostov region

What do the colors of the regionโ€™s banner symbolize? What is the meaning of the flag of the Rostov region?

The meaning of the colors of this symbol is to identify those peoples who from the very beginning settled these lands with the Don. So, the blue bar on the flag symbolizes the Don Cossacks, the yellow - Kalmyks, and the red - Russian. Thus, the colors of the flag in the complex symbolize unity and mutual understanding between all the peoples inhabiting the region. Indeed, at the moment, Ukrainians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, and other peoples live here.

But what does the vertical white strip mean, which was supplemented with the flag of the Rostov region in 1996? It turns out that the white strip is nothing but a symbol of the unity of the Rostov region with the rest of the Russian Federation formed after the collapse of the USSR.

Rostov-on-Don is the administrative center of the region, a major city of the country with a population of over one million people (2.8 million, given the number of residents in the entire Rostov metropolitan area).

Rostov-on-Don is often called the "southern capital" of Russia. This is a very important scientific, cultural and industrial center of the Russian Federation. Its role in transport is also high. Of course, the city of Rostov has its own official symbols: a flag and a coat of arms.

The flag of the city is a traditional-sized banner (2: 3), which is exactly in the middle divided by a vertical line into two parts. The left is blue and the right is red. Blue color symbolizes the glory and honor of Rostovites, and red - their strength and courage, manifested many times both on the fields of various battles, and on the fields of agricultural, as well as in the walls of city factories.
