STD-120M is a wood lathe designed for processing small-sized elements from different types of wood. The unit has the advantageous features that distinguish it from its predecessor, namely that critical work areas are protected by a fence, equipped with local lighting. In addition, the basic electrical circuit was modernized, a system for reducing vibration and noise levels was provided, and an installation was developed to remove dust and chips by a mechanized method.

Rear element

This part of the STD-120M machine provides support when servicing long products, as well as fixing the cartridge, directly drills and other tools. The rear element of the device consists of a skeleton and pintles sliding along the guide grooves of the housing.

A hole is provided on one side of the movable sleeve, which is adjusted to the cone, where the back stop, chuck or drill with the corresponding limit switch is placed. A sleeve having an internal thread is inserted from the opposite side by pressing. The set screw provides easy movement of the pintles and prevents it from rotating around its own axis.

The torque redistribution element is combined with a threaded sleeve, on one edge of which a flywheel fixed by a nut is installed. Mounting the pins in the required position is carried out by the clamping handle. The tailstock is fixed using a nut, a cracker (washer) and a bolt. To lubricate the working elements in the housing, special holes are provided.

Basic and removable accessories

The woodworking machine STD-120M is equipped with several basic elements, namely:

  1. A trident used to secure the workpiece. It has a conical shape at one end that is identical to a spindle. The second edge of the element is made in the form of a fork with three teeth. The workpiece is fixed by placing the intended groove directly in the trident, after which the second end is clamped in the tailstock pins.
  2. A cup cartridge, which is a part that has a cylindrical interior on one side and a tapered shank on the other hand, which serves to be installed in the spindle part of the front headstock. The round side of the workpiece is tightly placed in the cartridge cavity or clamped with bolts.
  3. If the workpiece has a multifaceted shape, an embossed cartridge is used.
  4. In addition, the STD-120M lathe can be equipped with chucks with three or four cams. They serve to secure parts to the outside. Self-centering elements have independent cam movement, which allows to speed up processing and increase its efficiency.

Regarding the electrical equipment of the turning unit, it can be noted that there is a connection to an AC network with three phases (380 V) with a neutral that is grounded tightly. The distribution cabinet also has a lighting transformer.

Operational features

The STD-120M wood lathe does not belong to the category of professional equipment, its main purpose is to familiarize students with the basics of the turner. It has increased security measures.

To ensure the stability of the processing tool, it is better to make the base steel or concrete. Its height should be at least 60 centimeters.

In addition, some operational features should be considered:

  • The wood blank must be free of cracks and knots.
  • The humidity of the part is allowed no higher than 20 percent.
  • Large items must be processed at minimum speed.
  • At least once a year or after five hundred hours of operation, lubricate moving elements, check the equipment for deformation and malfunctions.
