Krasnodar city: attractions, descriptions and photos

Sometimes this sunny city is called Russian Paris. Lush vegetation, many outdoor cafes on shady alleys, squares and fountains - all this in summer really resembles the capital of France. It's nice to walk around the city, see the sights of the city of Krasnodar, interesting places, visit museums and exhibitions.

From the history of the city

On the territory of modern Krasnodar, the first settlements appeared in the III century BC. To this day, archaeologists find traces of ancient settlements on this earth. In 1793, Empress Catherine II gave this territory to the Cossacks by her Decree. So the fortress Ekaterinodar appeared here, which in 1867 received the status of a city.

Later it became an important transport and trade center of the North Caucasus. The settlement received its current name on December 7, 1920. Today it is an actively developing city. In terms of volume and pace of housing construction, it is in third place after Moscow and St. Petersburg. In this article we will present you the sights of Krasnodar (addresses will be indicated).

Alexander Nevsky Cathedral (Krasnaya St., 1)

This magnificent temple has a complex and long history, like many places of worship in our country. It was built according to the project of famous Kuban architects - Elisha and Ivan Chernik (brothers), who were educated at the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg.

The cathedral was founded in the early spring of 1853. Consecration took place only nineteen years later (in 1872). The reason for this is the Crimean War and the lack of funds for construction. For believers, this cathedral became the embodiment of greatness and beauty. This is a true masterpiece of the temple architecture of the Byzantine-Russian style. A clear plan of the cross (equilateral) and five domes crowned with gilded crosses, rich interior decoration amazed the parishioners. Porcelain iconostasis with gilded stucco molding caused special admiration. It was the first stone church in Yekaterinodar.

Many of the popular sights of Krasnodar, the description of which you can find in this article, have been repeatedly destroyed over a long history. This cathedral did not escape the sad fate. In Soviet times, the temple was closed (1929) and looted barbarously. For some time in his premises was a museum of atheism. I.V. Stalin. In the spring of 1932, a magnificent building was blown up.

In 2003, the city authorities of Krasnodar decided to restore the temple. Already in May 2006, Metropolitan Cyril consecrated it. Today, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the main Orthodox church in the city. Services and festive liturgies are held here.

Krasnodar city: attractions. Catherine Cathedral

The main temple of the Kuban diocese, located at: st. Kommunarov, 52, is one of the largest in the country. At first it was the church of St. Catherine, built in 1814 thanks to the help of Archpriest Cyril of Rossinsky. For a long time she was subordinate to the Resurrection Cathedral. It held services for the clergy.

In 1888, the royal train went off the rails near Yekaterinburg. Fortunately, no one from the sovereign's family was injured. On this occasion, it was decided to build a great cathedral with seven thrones in the city. Construction work began in 1900, but they were repeatedly stopped due to lack of funds. Fourteen years later (1914), the main throne was consecrated.

In the thirties, the cathedral was turned into storage facilities. They even tried to disassemble it into building material. Nevertheless, in the terrible 1942, services began to be carried out in it, despite the fact that there was a military warehouse there at that time.

In 1985, a large-scale reconstruction of the painting of the interior of the cathedral took place, openwork wrought-iron gates in the style of the old Ekaterinodar were set. Today the temple is working; divine services and festive liturgies are held there.

Memorial to the victims of fascism (May Day Park)

The main attractions of Krasnodar, according to local residents, are monuments and memorials dedicated to the soldiers and victims of the Second World War. This memorial is located in Chistyakovskaya Grove, in the green zone of the city most visited by townspeople and tourists.

The sculptural composition was discovered in 1975, on the thirtieth anniversary of the Great Victory. Every year war veterans from all over the country and young residents of the city on May 9 come here to bow to the ashes of the victims of fascism.

The place for this complex was not chosen by chance - during the war years there were anti-tank ditches, into which the Nazis dumped the bodies of city residents poisoned with gas. The composition commemorates the thirteen thousand civilians of Krasnodar who died during the most severe fascist terror. Thirteen green squares, which are part of this complex, symbolize this terrible figure.

The sights of Krasnodar, the description of which is in many brochures of travel companies, are of great interest to tourists. That is why the memorial is always crowded, at its foot at any time of the year are fresh flowers. This sculptural composition is a collective image of the Krasnodar people. Here you can see the figure of an old man and a soldier, a very young man and a little girl.

An appeal to the descendants is carved on a marble slab: “Remember, remember, remember, people. The name of the killer is fascism! ” The design of this monument was developed by architect I.I. Golovarev and sculptor I.P. Shmagun.

Monument to the Kuban Cossack Army (October Revolution Square)

Popular sights of Krasnodar are devoted to earlier events. This monument, mounted on a pedestal, has a total height of fourteen meters. He is crowned by a double-headed eagle and a gilded ball.

The obelisk, which appeared in Yekaterinodar at the end of the 19th century, has been the hallmark of the city for twenty years. Its creation was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Cossack army. It was designed by the famous Kuban architect V.A. Filippov.

The construction of such a massive obelisk for the city was not an easy task. Its official opening took place somewhat later than the anniversary date - in May 1897. Despite this, a huge number of residents of the Kuban took part in the celebrations, since this monument became a symbol of the unity of many generations of the Black Sea and Kuban, Don and Zaporozhye Cossacks.

Krasnodar city: unusual sights

Yes, original compositions can also be seen in this southern city. Sights in Krasnodar sometimes surprise even those who have seen many amazing designs of tourists.

Two dogs in love, located at the intersection of Mira and Krasnaya Streets, are one of such objects. The creation of such an unusual monument by the architect V. Pchelin was inspired by the poem by V. Mayakovsky “Krasnodar”.

The opening of the unusual monument took place in September 2007. As conceived by the author, two dogs, dressed in human clothes, met at the intersection of two streets (Mira and Krasnaya) on their first date.

Monument Wallet

If you arrive in the city of Krasnodar, the sights of this beautiful and extremely hospitable village will be found in all areas of the Kuban capital. We are sure that most tourists did not have to see such an unusual object.

The purse monument was unveiled in 2008, during the celebration of the 215th anniversary of the city, at the intersection of Krasnoarmeyskaya and Gogol Streets. A place for him was chosen in the business center of Krasnodar. The monument turned out to be very realistic, preserving all the proportions of the wallet, despite its impressive size.

Granite was used for its manufacture. The clasp is made of stainless steel. The weight of the structure is more than a ton. Granite "folds" give the impression of a real, but huge-sized wallet.

This design was a copy of the monument, located in Melbourne near the shopping center. Local residents say that you should sit on your wallet or rub it with your wallet. In this case, you can count on financial well-being, business success and debt resolution. Probably, the miraculous effect of the wallet has been tested more than once, as evidenced by its polished surface to a shine. The city authorities jokingly call the monument a symbol of the city budget.
